Last Friday, ESPN Magazine released its “Body Issue” featuring over 80 nude or barely-clothed professional athletes. The magazine has generated a lot of buzz since hitting newsstands, and we here at KSR took notice of its successful “sex sells” approach. In an effort to market the KSR brand, and keep up with the powerhouse publications such as ESPN and Sports Illustrated, I took it upon myself to produce KSR’s very own “Body Issue.”
Over the past fews days, I’ve photographed over 200 media and University of Kentucky personalities in their most natural state. Most of the photos never made it through the selection process (sorry, Buzz – I couldn’t get the license agreement from Redi-Whip) but I managed to put together a pretty tasteful collection of photos for your enjoyment. I will share a few of the magazine’s best shoots with you here, but in order to see the entire spread, you will have to pick up the hard copy of KSR: The Body Issue, which hit newsstand today.
The Cover – Head Football Coach, Rich Brooks
Here, I wanted to capture Coach Brooks doing what he loves. You can really see the passion he has for homegrown tomatoes. It was difficult choosing the cover model, and lots of hearts were broken in the process, but this shoot really speaks for the entire magazine. After finding out that he had been selected, Papa Brooks said, “It is truly an honor and I will consider pursuing a career in modeling once my time at UK has ended.”
Inside Bromley’s Huddle
Rob Bromley took time out of his “Inside the Huddle” sideline reporting duties to give readers a taste of his everyday life. As you can see, Rob is very relaxed when at home on the couch. I feel like this shoot really shows a side of Rob that most have never seen.
“You Don’t Look A Day Past Forde”
This segment was originally supposed to be just Rick Pitino, but once Pat Forde heard Pitino would be nude, my phone started ringing off the hook. Against my better judgement, I gave Pat permission to join my team as an assistant with the sole duty of applying powder to the coach’s nether regions. Pat wasn’t even on the set for 3 minutes before he was completely nude and intervening in Pitino’s layout. Luckily, it still turned out to be a pretty good shoot that captures their homoerotic relationship.
