David Stern’s 2nd draft pick was Sam Bowie, his 2nd to last pick was Archie Goodwin. Let’s go ahead and get this out of the way, why isn’t there any tour stops West of Bowling Green? Matt, don’t you care about the millions of UK fans West of Bowling Green? If Cal ever leaves to go to the NBA, I hope we get a Cal/Jones confrontation like we saw with Doc and Simmons last night.

Matt, could you explain what it means for a draft pick to be “protected” like it is in the Noel trade? I believe the Pelicans get a “1-3 protected pick”.

    Breathe Right strips uncle matt…

  16. I already posted this on another thread, but if dropping to 6th cost Nerlens 4.4 million like the other post said, he could have stayed another year and made as much or more than he’ll make now, right? Assuming he stayed healthy, I’m thinking definitely more, because his offense would have improved and we already know what a shot-blocking machine he is.

That being said, I still understand why he would go. I remember Ron Mercer seemed to be thinking about coming back for his junior year until he saw Derek Anderson blow out a knee for the 2nd time.

Lets be clear. Zeller will be better than Len. That shouldn’t be surprising. Archie only has a 2 year contract. And nerlens was an afterthought in that trade. They traded holiday for the picks next year. Trading Noel for holiday would be the dumbest trade in history. Holiday is a proven player. Happy for our dudes though

    more Zeller nonsense:
But at 240 pounds, Zeller acknowledged in a conference call with Charlotte media he might need to put on muscle and bulk to compete at the next level.

“I could put on 15 to 20 pounds, as long as I keep my speed and quickness,” Zeller said Thursday. “That’s what sets me apart.”

Wonder why the SEC sucks at basketball? Underclassmen that aren’t ready for the league leave every year. We saw it again last night: Phil Pressey, BJ Young and Marshawn Powell all went undrafted. Those players would’ve made Missouri and Arkansas pretty competitive teams next year. Instead, they’ll both be terrible and not even threaten a tourney bid. What’s the point of the rule that doesn’t allow these guys to come back to school? The NCAA doesn’t seem to care too much about these student-athletes.

I really felt like Cleveland was building a championship contending team within the next 5 years had they taken Noel. They would have sucked next season regardless how soon Noel would have played and Commishioner Stern would have made sure they either A. Got the #1 pick next year and take Wiggins or B. Lebron goes back home to win it with his hometown team. The Bennett selection makes no sense to me……even if I weren’t a UK fan.

    Matt,

Do you think being from UK hurt Nerlens with Washington and Charlotte?

Even though we know better, someone in Washington might not have wanted to draft what could be perceived as another “injury-prone” UK guy.

In that same vein, someone from Charlotte could have been skittish about two UK stoppers with no offense.

If you’re a perennial lottery team with high UK draft picks and don’t dramatically improve, do you wind up talking yourself out of future UK guys that can help you?

Yeah…this year I say we need to beat UofL just to take the wind out of their sail. Every other year, I would say UT… they ‘posed to be SEC???

Beat Louisville. It would sting more to them than down near Rocky Top.

    Louisville.

If we lose to UL and then beat Tennessee, all the UL fans will talk about how they would dominate the SEC, which we know isn’t close to true.

(completely hypothetical) UK runs the table next season with the schedule we have, and wins the SEC Championship, and wins a National Title, do they erect a statue of Stoops at the front door of the Renovated Commonwealth Stadium at the Spring Game next year?

  116. What IF?

…or a statue to sit in front of a renovated Commonwealth Stadium once complete (won’t be one next year, obviously)

A Johnson Co. teenager will be singing the National Anthem at the Nascar race this weekend @ Sparta. Her name is Marlena VanHoose, she has been blind from birth and is a Jr.or Sr. at Johnson Central H.S. She has already sang the anthem and My old Ky Home for several big events.

hey, ridge runner in the post above this one hit it on the head: “Archie may have done us better last night than what he did his entire freshman year last year. Recruits see him picked in 1st round”

    –spot on.

I wouldn’t make fun of Indiana for being happy about having two draft picks not underachieving. Because if they underachieved with two first round draft picks, then what the hell would you call what we did this year with our first round picks? And did not the Great Guru himself say it was “the greatest day in UK history” when we had five draft picks or something? Like anyone gives a rat’s ass about the NBA? Not when we won a title, but about draft picks.
