Butch Jones is 10-9 in Big East and a full 1010 games worse than his predecessor in 3the years he has been there.
Charlie Strong took over a terrible program and Butch Jones took over a 12-1 program at the same time. Louisville has now passed up Cincy as a program.

Butch Jones isn’t my first choice, but I’ll take him and be happy about it. I’m just ready for something new, exciting, and gives fans hope for the future.

I agree with Matt that hiring Butch Jones would be a triple for UK. However, in 3 years at Cincinnati, Butch Jones has NOT led the Bearcats to a Big East championship.

It was 2009 under Brian Kelly when Cincinnati had an undefeated regular season and got trounced by Florida in the Sugar Bowl in what was Tim Tebow’s final game as a Gator. If I recall, Butch Jones was named Head Coach to replace Kelly before the bowl game but did not coach the team in New Orleans.

30. That’s a good point. The Big East is losing members most likely to the ACC to fill up for the gaps of the ACC teams leaving for the SEC, B1G, and Big 12 in the future. Smart AD’s and coaches are looking ahead.

All I know is we have several solid coaches to rally around if hired: Smart, Tuberville, Jones, Macintyre, Anderson, Koetter and maybe Dykes. I think Tuberville would be homerun, but he might be unattainable. I’d take any of the group and be very happy.
If your AD is making coaching decisions based on personnel you are setting yourself up for failure. A good coach will adapt his scheme to fit the players on his team. Cal does it every year.

Don’t forget that Butch Jones would have more direct knowledge and experience with Patrick Towles. UC is only a 10 minute drive from Fort Thomas Highlands. If Davis is hired Towles WILL play NOT smith.
I don’t understand why the Pro-Petrino folks are so adamant that he is the ONLY guy for the job. To think that there is only one person capable of making UK a serious contender in the SEC is just silly. The questiion will be “can Barnhardt identify and hire a coach as capable or more than Petrino?”. If the answer is NO, then Mitch just needs to concede and go after Bobby P.

Bobby petrino is the BEST option for UK football. I think part of why matt does not advocate petrino is because petrino would prove his “UK will never be good at football” theory completely wrong. I really believe Petrino could lead the cats to a 9 or 10 win season and Matt would look clueless about his football critique, again. I think it is funny how matt and ksr have put a “gag order” on Petrino because “we can’t get him” but he pushes for names like rex ryan. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. I used to love this show. Now I get sick to my stomach hearing matt spew his antipetrino crap. I don’t know why I listen.

Petrino is the logical choice & should be UK’s first option, UK would have no chance at him if he had not made a horrible mistake. The 2nd logical choice would be Kliff Kingsbury, his offense dismantled Kirby Smart’s defense, he is young and can recruit, UK should have a good chance at landing him. 3rd logical choice would be Sonny Dykes, awesome offense, former UK assistant, would probably work here at UK and UK should have a chance at landing him. 4th logical choice would be Neal Brown, awesome offense, very young, Danville native, UK would be able to get him. Hopefully Barnhart will use logic and not stupidity.

You think a fball coach isn’t going to play the best QB and just give it to someone because they live down the street? that is like saying if we get tuberville that signee is going to play because their hometowns are close. If Jones is hired, the only way towles starts is if he beats out Smith. Unless he improves a TON, that isn’t going to happen. Smith is waaaaaaay ahead of towles at this point. Its not close. Towles will be a great player, but he isn’t beating out smith next year.

@54–you’re missing the point, anyone acquainted with Towles capabilities knows he is leaps and bounds better than Smith in temrs of both his capability now and his ceiling. Quit believing what Sanders is feeding you he is saying that because he was a complete failure and failed to utilize the best QB on his roster and mismanaged the entire QB competition and then the platoon debacle. In order to salvage his career and make himself sound good, he has hitched his wagon to Smith, because Smith had some success under his system. Perhaps if Sanders knew what he was doing, played Towles from the beginning he would still have a job.

Vitale said that UK and Duke should play every year during the UK-Duke game, last night he said UK and IU should play every year. Just goes to show how true Calipari’s comment was that UK is “everybody’s Super Bowl.”

The reason Cal doesn’t want to play a home and home series versus IU is because he doesn’t want IU to use the UK game as a recruiting tool. IU isn’t on our level and Cal isn’t going to help them pretend.

100 — There is certainly no great team, but I base my comparison on IU and Louisville on the Cardinals’ length, size, and depth. I didn’t think much about Louisville before the season, but have been very impressed by how overwhelming their size and length is. I know they haven’t played anybody, but I really feel confident in saying this will at least be the second-best team Pitino has had at Louisville.

Matt, I wasn’t really sold on MacIntyre when I first heard his name come up either. However, if you look at how his team ranks nationally, you have to be impressed. SJSU ranks 39th in total offense, 22nd in total defense, 20th in 3rd down defense, 26th in turnover margin, and is 3rd in the nation in passing efficiency.

Matt, I’m not a doctor but I play one on the internet and, at times, in real life. I think Harrow has Anxiety / Depression induced fatigue. It’s real, and related to a psychological condition. You could see something in the All-Access show and the pressure Cal was putting on him. Just a guess, and I’m guessing we’ll never know the real truth. But, I’m betting this is what it is.

I don’t think Bobby Knight is the best by any means, but I also don’t think he is the “worst” commentator around. I find it pretty interesting to hear his thoughts on the game. You can tell he’s not always fully attentive to the action, but at times he says some very interesting basketball-coach type of stuff.
