The argument that Joker is failing because of lack of facilities and funding is bogus. Did UK suddenly cut funding and burn facilities when Brooks left? The answer is no. Brooks found a way to win 6-7 games per year with the same funding and facilities that Joker has. Joker has managed to take the program from moderate winner to laughingstock in just three years.

Joker’s record has gone from 6-7 to 5-7 to an inevitable 2-10 or 3-9. The AD said before the season that he couldn’t let the program slip and he had to see progress. 2 or 3 wins with a loss to WKU and a blowout to Louisville can’t be construed as anything but a regression. We will see if Mitch tries to tell the fans how the program has progressed.

23- thing is, Mitch is in a pretty tight spot. IF he fires Joker, he has to be able to replace him with something MUCH better or it’s a wash. If he can’t do that, I don’t know what to think and I’m sure he doesn’t, either. He really is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.

I agree that there needs to be a change. But IDK if UK can sell the job to anyone that can really improve the program. And if you fire Joker before knowing the answer to the previous question, UK could actually end up in worse shape than they are now.

This hire is so, so massive and I just don’t have faith in UK to do it correctly.

#29, the sad fact is that UK was in EXCELLENT position to hire a decent coach and move the program forward back when Brooks retired. HCRB had built a solid foundation, recruits were starting to give UK a serious look, and we had some momentum back then. Instead of building on this, Barnhart & Co chose to totally mail it in by naming Joker as the HCIW. Now we are back to square one, if we are lucky.

A head football coach is 100% a CEO. I wouldn’t hire Joker to run a portable restroom business because he I think he lacks leadership skills, public speaking skills, doesn’t demand respect, makes excuses. A CEO is 50% wisdom, 50% leadership. Jerk or not, you have to get things done. You live and die with the success of the coaches you bring in, just like a CEO depends on his sales manager, operations, etc.

When you first talked about the tickets for Big Blue Madness you said some would be given away on air, some would be Drew driving around and you also said some for podcast listeners and the website. I do not want to make you mad Matt and I know in the past when people question about the tickets you say hey there free tickets. That’s right and we are grateful that you look out for your fans, but, if you say something on KSR you should know, based on your great ratings, people listen. I’m guessing no tickets for podcast or website because tomorrow is BB madness and people away from Lexington would have to make arrangements to get off or get to the event on time. 116- well, to that point, the issue becomes being easier to make money and win at other programs. Uk has nothing to offer but money when it comes to FB. Other schools looking for coaches can offer money and much more for a new coach to succeed. UK is a tough, tough sell, money or not. Mitch said as much in an interview on Matt’s show. Said that they would readily pay top dollar to the right coach, but that they lack in other areas to be able to attract such a coach to this program. Money has proven to not be enough for a promising coach to want to start out behind the 8-ball that is UK football.

UK is a hard sell. Mitch is not a salesman.

UK Football is so much further away from sustained success than most realize. Unlike in basketball, football offers no Calipari magic. There’s no 1-2 year plan that leads to bowl games, conference championships, 5-star recruits.

So, regardless of the new CEO of UK Football, you won’t see sustained success until the last part of Y3 or Y4. Similarly, even though I think Joker is not an SEC football CEO, his marginal improvements in recruiting will show up in the next two years, which will be a great start for the new head coach. There are some really good young players on the roster and now he’s building talented depth, too. Not all bad goings on in the program.

When you discuss coaches who would be hard to get, you are talking about coaches with the following situations — already have great job security, are happy with their situation as an assistant coach, are happy be a head coach at a smaller school in a lesser conferences, or are willing to pass up a massive salary for whatever reason. There are many coaches that are better than Joker out there that do not fit into any of those categories.

Get Etta May on your show-the lady comedian. She lives in the Danville area too, loves the Wildcats and has some great Wildcats jokes. You might remember her as the ‘lunch lady’ that always wore the hair net. She does Comedy on Broadway sometimes and some local radio occasionally. Looking forward to Rick Dees. Hope you can get both of them.
