I was a little disappointed with the Rupp announcement yesterday, still no name. Not a fan but at least the words Rupp will STILL be in it. I think it will be a national chain name for it. So glad that beehive is going to be gone!! Hopefully local (KY) companies though.

Such as: Delta Airlines, Makers Mark, Fazoli’s, Tempur-Pedic, Woodford Reserve, Texas Roadhouse, Old-Folks Country Sausage, etc. Hopefully not a Verizon or Time Warner Cable, or McDonald’s.

How about Hustler? The owner is from Eastern KY.

BBN and KSR…can y’all please help send a fellow Kentuckian and member of BBN to the MLB ALL STAR GAME? Steve Delabar is a finalist to be the last member selected to the AL All Star Team as a relief pitcher for the Toronto Bluejays.

You can tweet #RaiseTheBar or text A2 to 89269. You can also vote online at http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2013/fv/ballot.jsp.

He was featured on HBO Real Sports last season and has a pretty amazing story considering he was a teacher and assistant HS basketball coach. Voting ends at 4:00 pm today. Thanks in advance and please help a member of BBN achieve his dream!

For Wiltjer… Redshirted aren’t declared until end of season. After games have concluded, if player plays below minimum amount, the redshirt option is available. There is NO NEED to “put a redshirt” on someone before start of season. Those who intend on redshirting sometime end up playing due to injuries on the team, suspensions, etc (happens more often in fball). Wiltjer could intend to redshirt an still play this season IF he stays at UK

What are the chances UK just says “no” to this whole thing? I assume UK can still do what they want when the Rupp lease expires in 2018 if they want to, so the city needs UK on board to proceed with this project if they want the UK basketball team to be apart of it. And we all know the UK basketball team is the only way this can get done.

Naming rights exist in college sports and it is the wave of the future- for example:

    Carrier Dome (Syracuse)
    Jones AT&T Stadium (Texas Tech)
    Capitol One Field (Maryland)
Value City Arena at Schottenstein Center (Ohio State)
    Reser Stadium (Oregon State)
    Ryder Center (University of Miami)

I suspect if and when Duke renovates they will get a naming right too…

Having a corporate name could help pay for maintaining the areana. I really think you all are missing how the whole entertainment district/park will enhance the gameday expierience. It really has the potential to bring more people in early and keep them there after games longer.

I would hardly say Henderson was picking a fight with Erin Andrews considering she fired the first shot.

#111- I’m not sure how many people are going to want to spend a lengthy amount of time in a park in the middle of winter. Especially considering many games start at 9 and are not over until 11 or later.

Matt, unfortunately UK has no real dog in this fight because they don’t own Rupp. UK fans may not like it but UK has no right to name a building that they lease, if they wanna name a building whatever they want then they’re gonna have to build their own.

    112. Everyone fired the first shot. She was responding to Gary Parrish. Out of the million tweets trashing him, he picked hers? Pick a dude, not a female. I have no respect for drugged up dudes who pick on females. I don’t care if she is part of the media.

113 – The plans aren’t just for a park and amphitheater but for bars and restaurants that people could enjoy both before and after the games. If you don’t live in Lexington you may not be familiar with how much more vibrant downtown is becoming. I for one hope the entire plan comes to fruition so long as it is financially feasible, which still needs to be displayed.

It’s not about the building. We’re all talking about it as is “Rupp” was just a word someone threw on the building. Adolph Rupp dedicated the building months before he died. We yammer about tradition all day then sell that tradition to Walmart. The lack of respect demonstrated by people on here asking “who cares?” toward the man who gave us this program is disgusting.

Lets be honest about this…as long as the state is supporting the city’s plan, UK doesn’t have an option, they have to live with whatever happens. The alternative is to try to build your own arena, which doesn’t happen without bonds. As we know from the Commonwealth Stadium deal, bonds have to be approved by the state.
