KSR College looks at the top five flat tops
From Chris Jones…

Now that you know how its done, run, don’t walk, to your local barber shop.
I don’t know if you heard about this, but last night it was confirmed via haircut that Nerlens Noel would be “taking his talents” to Lexington to try and bring home #9 for the Big Blue Nation. Not only did this announcement guarantee Calipari’s 4th consecutive number 1 recruiting class, it also showed that Noel has infinite swag. When asked where he would be playing basketball next year, he said “Next year, I’m going to be taking my talents to play at the University of…” and then silently turned around only to show this work of art:

When words just aren’t enough.
Now that we know “The Eraser” (fantastic nickname) is coming to Lexington next year, I have decided to see how his swag-top measures up against some from the past. This week’s version of Top 5 counts down the best flat-top haircuts the world has seen.
Honorable Mention: Brandon Jennings

‘Cause when you don’t live up to your potential, you might as well look good doing it.
5. Ivan Drago from Rocky IV

“I must break you.”
4. Nerlens Noel

Nerlens, bring us home number 9 and maybe you’ll jump up a couple of spots on the list.
3. Kenny (Sky)Walker

This is the second time I’ve been able to post this picture on KSRCollege, and I can tell you now it won’t be the last.
2. Will Smith

Remember that time? That one time?
1. This guy

Flat top + Mullet = Number 1
That’s all for today. #BringItBack high-top fade

I wonder if Nerlens only went UK because the barber couldn’t do the Georgetown logo?
You guys can continue to call it a “flat top” if you want, but Nerlens is actually sporting the “High Top Fade”. Word!!
Actually think it’s spelled Hi-top fad. My bad.
*fade…..I give up.
for God’s sake, please stop calling it a “flat top” and call it what it is… a “high top fade”, big difference.
Would you guys stop calling it a flat-top… It is a high top fade… It would be like calling Harrelson’s jean shorts khaki shorts…You dindnt call Jorts Korts did you… And that whole flat-top feller saying has a creepy racial undertone to it… STOP IT!
i’ve always heard it called a high top too but “high-top feller” doesn’t sound quite as good as “flat-top feller”
Sargeant Carter, Gomer Pyle!!
Turley Curd says its a flat top, so im going with flat top..
Where’s Kid from Kid n Play?
where is kid n play? http://www.gq.com/blogs/the-q/kidnplay.jpg
Nerlens has a high-top fade. JP Blevins had a flat top.
**The More You Know**
The “flat top feller” stupidity will never end because you guys obviously find it hilarious to egg on the bumpkins…instead you shold start lobbying for 2 of the new guys to do the kid n play kick step at BBM
9. i’ll go with flat top too., not that it really matters, i just like to see all the comments of the ones getting so upset sayin that we are calling it the wrong thing. I wish i had nothing else to worry about.
It’s a high top fade you redneck!
really disappointed in KSR what no Mark Pope?
im going with engine engine NUMBER NINE baby
Ignorant mugfuggas
And I agree with (6)
Kwame! with the blond streak, & Kid has to be on the list
If 2 people does the kid n play dance at bbm, be the best intros ever. I vote polson and wiltjer do it when they announce Noel.
A flat top is basically a white kids buzz cut.
Come on guys. Where are the historians? I’m old enough to have seen these flat top Cats play in
person: Billy Ray Lickert (All SEC, KY Mr Basketball); Ed Beck (Fiddlin Five starting center); Charlie Ishmael, Carroll Burchett, Larry Pursiful, Lincoln Collinsworth (Chris’ dad), Pat Riley (soph year), etc. Most, of course from the late 1950’s and 1960’s when the style was in.
ummmmmm….Where’s Kid, from Kid n’ Play?
Chris Mullin had a pretty impressive flat top as well.
Who cares what it’s “technically” called? Do you think this site cares? Everyone knows what it implies. So for all the people who are literally upset about the incorrect term for a haircut, shut the hell up. It says more about yourself for taking the time to write on EVERY post how it’s incorrect, than it does about the writers that they are wrong.
It’s flat on the top isnt it? So who cares! All I care about is that he’s a CAT!!!!
I want Rodney Hood
Plus, I can tell Chris Jones is young as hell bc he didnt even put Kid-N-Play in there, dude had one of the tallest ones I’ve ever seen. How about using some originals instead of these remakes lol
#5 & 6, sorry, but it IS a flat top. Just google it. If the younger generation has a different term than that used by the generation which launched it, no problem but that doesn’t make the original term wrong. At least “flat top” is descriptive of the look. Not all flat tops are high and fade makes no sense in this context. Fade is what madras shirts did when you washed them. (I’m just having fun with you, guys.)
Scotty Hopson???
high top fade… stop with this creepy racial flat top feller saying…Matt if you are gonna have a stupid racist wackpacker on go call up Daniel Carver
From Wikipedia:
“The Hi-top fade was and still is commonly called just a flattop, due to the great likeness of the two styles. In fact the Hi-top fade could qualify as a variation on the flattop. The style began to slowly reemerge in popularity in the late 2000s, especially in 2009, as a new generation of musicians, athletes and even actors of color begin to embrace this hairstyle.”
Ruling: We can call it a flattop.
Just call him the fresh prince of Lexington
well i went almost 2 weeks without thinking about how much i dislike many of my fellow uk fans
The fresh prince of blue heir…. Haha!
what about Gerald from Hey Arnold? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d7/JARED-FROM-HEY-ARNOLD-psd7390.png
Im sad that you left this one off
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d7/JARED-FROM-HEY-ARNOLD-psd7390.png
damn you number 37. you even used the same picture as me. this means war.
You forgot about me
lol
37, 38, 39, 41 – Probably the funniest thing I’ve seen all day. You have now given me reason to call it a night. Thank you.
What about Scotty Hopson?!?!?!?!??!
For Gods sake it’s called a box!!!!!!
44…box? LOL…ummmm…well….uh….no. I’d post a pic of a “box”, but it would get deleted.
Nerlens kind of gave it away when he said “University of…” since Georgetown University and Syracuse University don’t have an “of” …but the hair cut was nice…now B-E-N-N-E-T-T
Looks like Nerlens is in for some culture shock when he arrives in Lexington. It’s alright Nerlens, we may not know hair styles, but we know basketball and the BBN is going to love you.
“A hi-top fade is a style of haircut where hair on the sides is cut off or kept very short and hair on the top of the head is very long.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi-top_fade
“A flattop is a type of very short hairstyle similar to the crew cut, with the exception that the hair on the top of the head is deliberately styled to stand up (typically no more than an inch)” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flattop
Olympic volleyball champion Steve Timmons combined the flat top with the ginger mystique => http://www.strength-and-power-for-volleyball.com/images/famous-volleyball-player-steve-timmons.jpg
Maybe Nerlens can get some dreads going down his back to combine the HTF with the Alex Tyus “Predator” look. Kind of like a hip hop version of the Asian kid with the flat top / mullet. Now THAT would be intimidating.
So, question for the barber police. Why is it that because some “country” guy calls it a flat top it has a “creepy racist undertone”? Did I miss something?
Although he didn’t sport one at UK, Kenny Sky Walker sported a pretty nice fade for the New York Knicks!
#36, very nice, bluebloodtoo.
I guess an old white man calling a black man “feller ” is racist … so fast to pull the race card… “that guy looked at me funny….dang racist cracka”
Pretty sure anybody can be called feller. I never attributed a “creepy racist undertone” to that word. I don’t get it.
56) Yeah I’m about as liberal as you can get and I don’t get that either. A feller is a guy. You can’t spin that any other way.
I think we used to call gays “fellers” but I don’t ever think I’ve heard it as a racist term.
flat top stopper………………………………..
