Knick fans already embracing Jorts

jorts-homeboyHe’s the Big Apple’s homeboy now.

The big city seems to be consumed by Jorts fever in the wake of the Knicks’ selection of the big fella in the second round Thursday night. After making an appearance on the big screen at Yankee Stadium and nearly convincing the Yanks to ditch the pinstripes for a more denim-heavy look, it now looks like the love for Josh Harrellson has extended into the blogosphere.

The Knicks blog KnickScoop put together a glowing welcome for Jorts, and although the author admits to having his heart set on Josh Selby in the second round, he’s no less excited about Harrellson being able to fill a role the Knicks needed to address. He even thinks that Jorts has a chance to capture the hearts of fans in Knick blue like he did those of us in the Kentucky shade. A little excerpt from the KnickScoop writeup:

When you think of Harrellson winning the matchup vs. First Team All American Jared Sullinger, it is hard to not think of the games Jeff Foster and Zaza Pachulia had these past playoffs.  They will not be filling up the points column in the boxscore, but what they bring from a motor/defensive standpoint is invaluable.  Taking all-star players such as Dwight Howard, Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah off their game, these guys let their own superstars take control and earn their paychecks.

“Big Jorts” Josh Harrellson already knows what he has to bring in order to be effective in the NBA.  He did just that this past season at Kentucky.  Floor burns, rebounds, and 6 fouls will be every bit important as the 30 points we get from STAT and Melo.  Don’t be surprised if you see 18,000 fans on their feet wearing jean shorts next April.  Madison Square Garden may have found its new fan favorite, #55 Josh Harrellson.

The thought of a packed Madison Square Garden wearing jean shorts in honor of one of KSR’s favorite sons would be unbelievable if Jorts hadn’t already made it abundantly clear that we shouldn’t doubt him. At all. Ever. I look forward to seeing Spike Lee in a pair.

That article had some legs to it until I got to number 3… Duke? Seriously? Everyone and I mean everyone has all but come to the conclusion that Duke does not produce but a few NBA guys and most are flops. Dukes track record with production and transition to the NBA is very poor relative to draft position and overall career accomplishments.

I want to see Josh in the NBA next year more than any other UK player, this draft or all past drafts!! He is the definition of a hard working man and although I have never cared for the Knicks, I will become an instant fan!

Want to see Liggins in at Orlando too…but Josh is the one UK player that will make me an instant fan of that team!!

I don’t watch the NBA at all…this was the first year I have actually watched the Finals…just wanted LeBron to lose…but I’ll be a Knicks fan with Josh in the rotation!!!

Did you just Google ‘Jorts’ and pick an article? Knickscoop.com is literally 8 days old. It’s even got the default WordPress theme. KSR readers are probably some of the first readers to ever read it.

#4 – Good way to get a new sports blog off the ground, eh? Go for the hits from UK fans… seems to work for most bloggers/journalists/etc. these days.

Never been a huge NBA fan but here in VA I get all the Wash Wizards games and get to see Wall regularly which is more than I saw when he was at UK…so I too will be watching some Knicks and Magic games…
