Kentucky’s opponents have lost only 2 games all season

Let me start off by stating something very important: THIS IS NOT ME SAYING THAT IT IS OKAY FOR UK FOOTBALL TO HAVE 1 WIN SO FAR.

There. I had to get that off my chest. With that said, an interesting stat has been floating around this weekend. Kentucky’s football team has played a total of 6 teams so far this season. We knew going into the season that this year’s schedule wasn’t going to provide an easy road, but we did manage to avoid Alabama and LSU in the same year, when both entered the seasons as heavy favorites to contend for the national championship. Of the six teams Kentucky has faced this season, Louisville, Kent State, Western Kentucky, Florida, South Carolina and Mississippi State…the only losses on the season for any of those teams is a loss to #1 ranked Alabama by Western Kentucky and a loss to Kentucky by Ken State. The season is still young, and some of it has to do with the quality of teams Kentucky’s opponents have played against. The stat is still interesting though.

Louisville sits at 5-0

Kent State sits at 4-1

Western Kentucky sits at 4-1

Florida sits at 5-0

South Carolina sits at 5-0

Mississippi State sits at 5-0

That’s a combined 28-2 record for Kentucky’s opponents. Again, this is by no means a justification for Kentucky’s 1-5 record, rather a glance at an interesting statistic on Kentucky’s opponents. The statistic will change drastically when Kentucky faces Arkansas in their next game. Arkansas started the season off slow, but gained a bit of momentum with a win over Auburn last night.

Samford has a good FCS team this year. By the time we play them and we are 1-9, there is no guarantee we even beat them. The crowds will only get smaller.

Brooks would have more than 1 win… We have all seen in basketball how much difference a quality coach can make, when are people going to quit making excuses with football and learn the same lesson? It was wrong for UK to name Joker as the heir, they should have gone after the best possible coach out there at the time – now we’ve lost momentum and time… something very difficult to get back for a school like UK in a conference like the SEC.

Yes, our opponents are a combined 28-2, yet UK has not looked remotely competitive in any of their losses! There is a difference between losing (being competitive), and getting straight dominated!!

    Big Whoop!

What is our “Moral Victory” record??? 5-1? What is our “We’re tryin’ hard” record? 5-1? All I know is that our “Excuse” record is 6-0. The real question for me is…What stupid thing is Eli going to do next.

My biggest issue with the coaching staff, is their ability to actually evaluate player talent. I mean cmon. I’m no football genius but a blind man can tell you Towles would have given us a better chance at actually winning games this year…and yet Newton goes into the season at #2 on the depth chart. Confusing. Frustrating. Depressing.

What a ridiculous article. Ms. Tucker, you do realize that UK has to play UL and 8 SEC games each year, right? Every year, we are going to have this analysis. What this really shows is that teams like Western, Kent State and Samford (5-1) can enjoy football success with lesser players, facilities and financial resources.

Ms. Tucker, going by your ill fated logic, the remaining schedule has a combined record of 20-14. So we should run the table, right? Ain’t going to happen. You all need to quit drinking the Barnhard and Joker kool-aid.

UK football team really is that bad. Joker knew the schedule we have every year when he took the job, and he is not getting the job done. The schedule doesn’t change much year to year.

First, this info was stolen from a poster on the rivals site.

Second, I guess we should give joker a 10 year contract extention since the past several national champs have come from the SEC.

FIRE this chump before he gets one of our players killed.

Furthermore, UK has an easy schedule against the West this year by not having to play LSU or Alabama! Fire Joker!

    Mr. Joe,
I don’t believe I said that the football team would run the table on the rest of the opponents with lesser records…just as I did not say that their opponents’ impressive record so far means that they should be 1-5.
I’m just as unhappy with 1 win as the next person. Simply though it was an interesting fact and one that has been talked about a bit in the last day or so.
    Also, I don’t like kool-aid. Blue or otherwise colored/flavored.

And this list of opposing teams records means what to UK football??? Geeez. You really need to get a life if this is what you are attempting to hang your hat on Ms. Tucker.

You know what, I almost wish mitch would give joker an extention and raise. That way, in a year or two – someone (a couple BIG donors) will fire BOTH joker and mitch. These two boobs are the definition ‘limp.’

  17. Joe
    12:18 pm October 7, 2012 Permalink

    Ms. Tucker,

It is the same type of schedule every year. The difference is that UK hasn’t won the non SEC (4 games) like they used to. Papa Brooks would sometimes schedule non FBS schools to get a win.

Joker knew the SEC schedule when he took the job. He basically has to win 4 non conference games and 2 conference games to be bowl eligible. Can’t he schedule better than WKU? Maybe he should have scheduled Kentucky State.

I hear a lot about how UK is in good shape because of ‘all the young talent.’ Hell, who was in charge of recruiting the past 3 and 4 years? What necessitated all this young talent to be played immediately? A dearth of upperclassman is quite damning. Don’t give me this facilities crap. The Mississippi schools have worse facilities than UK and both are better (Don’t forget Vandy and Auburn may be last in the West, but they would murder UK) Pressure has to be generated towards Eli and Mitch. Empty seats won’t do it anymore due to the new TV contracts and forthcoming SEC network money. This BS about how the coach ‘loves UK’ is asinine. There are thousands of alumni who love UK too, that doesn’t mean they should be a head coach. How many SEC schools are going to go after that cagey Minter? O. Have a nice day.

I wish joker would man the F*** up and just quit. Doesn’t he see that he is not getting the job done. I mean, hell, if you can’t get above the last place recruiting class in conference – how are you gonna win in this league?

Part of the reason these teams are 5-0 is that they played a poorly coached team named Kentucky.

    12:46 pm October 7, 2012 Permalink

#10 you are exactly right. We know Joker loves UK, but he can’t pick the best QB. Max Smith is likely better than Towles because he’s been in the system longer. But Towles is head and heals over the other two. What about Massakoski (sorry for spelling)? He never got a shot and left. Maybe he didn’t burn it up in Division II, but my point is that he should have gotten a shot to see what he can do. You can have talent on you team, but if you don’t know how to use it or if you don’t use – you lose! Other than money, what reason does UK have to keep him?

UK football, 1-5, unranked, combined record of teams they have played: 28-2

UofL football, 5-0, ranked #18, combined record of teams they have played: 6-23

Yes those are accurate numbers. Yes, they still think Charlie Strong is a God.

This site is shilling awfully hard for Joker the last couple of days. Considering that this site tends to jump when Barnhart barks, I’m going to guess that Mitch is going to kick and scream to keep Joker. Joker is a living example of the “Peter Principle.” Time to move on

They’re too dumb to realize we’re to smart to fall for this crap.

They’re also too dumb to realize its not the losses that have fans up in arms… its the way we’ve lost those games. We’ve been absolutely dominated in some sense of the word, in every game save the Kent State one. You know… Kent State? One of 4 teams ranked lower than us in the country.

Alabama has had a lot of injuries too. They have lost RB Jalston Fowler, as well as starting RB Dee Hart for the season. They now only have 3 healthy RBs on scholarship. They also just lost WR DeAndrew White for the season. Will they cry like Joker and staff? No, because they recruit depth. Injuries happen in football, and you have to have reserves ready to step up.

Time to man up,and quit using excuses. Go down to Fayetteville and beat the 2-4 Razorbacks, after all they have a losing record.

    Opponents’ record is very interesting.

I would like to see UK fans ease up on Joker and crew. That being said I think Barnhart should be seeing who has interest. But just getting rid of Joker without an improvement could make things worse. Not to crush anyone’s dreams but Coach Cal will not be coaching the football team next year.
