Kentucky’s new habit: Posterizing Portland

For the past three years, every time Kentucky faces Portland someone gets posterized. Take a look:

**************

In 2010, it was Terrence Jones dunking on fools in his hometown:

In 2011, Kidd-Gilchrist‘s defender never stood a chance.

And yesterday, Archie Goodwin‘s dunk was good for the top play on Sportscenter:

So, who had the best dunk? All three are pretty disgusting but I’m going with MKG’s. It was the most embarrassing, I think.  What say you?

Archie is a close second, but since mkg was two hands I’ll go with him.

MKG by far. Archie’s is #2.

I’m actually going to go with Archie on this one. Brrrr.
But the MKG smile, man that kid knew how to make it fun for himself and everyone else. Miss that/

It’s also good to see that last years team was only up by 10 with 15 min left in the game. It’s easy to forget that they weren’t blowing everyone out all the time (we may very well have ended up winning that game by 50, I’m too lazy to look it up or back up my statement with facts).

MKG, Goodwin, Jones! In that order, but all are great!

9- I noticed the same thing. Hopefully this team will keep getting better and we will just remember a 28 point blowout at the end of the year.

MKG. The others aren’t even close.

TJ still in the D-league tho?

    1) MKG 2) Archie 3) TJ Terrance did that a lot. The other two were nasty ones that you don’t get to see too often. All three were freshmen and all three were “and 1’s”. Very cool. Poor Portland. I bet they’re glad they don’t have to see us anymore.

    #6 and #15

I think thats what this team is missing. I feel like they have put too much pressure on themselves and they are thinking to much. Just ball….when you bang on somebody like that you gotta smile a bit

Archie is incredibly athletic and has the potential to be a great scorer, but I also wish he would recognize some of the opportunities for an great pass to his teammates and an assist for an even better play. There have been a few fast break occasions where Archie had Nerlens or Willie trailing him and could have easily lobbed the ball up for an even more impressive play. Last night he could have easily done an off the glass pass to Willie on one fast break that would have absolutely blown the roof off of Rupp. Not trying to speak badly of the kid – he is young and was looked on as a scorer in HS, so that is what he knows. Just saying that I can’t wait for that next level of maturity to come along for him. He will be unstoppable when he makes turns that corner.

15, that little rooster strut / flex that Jones did on that play with that goofy expression on his face always cracked me up. Great to see them getting all fired up like that. Agree that we need more of that on this team – maybe they will develop that extra chemistry over Christmas break.

Thinks Terrance Jones was the motr EFFECTIVE being it was in Portland and out of Rupp.

Wonder if this little delay Stoops is apparently having closing out Brownie means that we won’t get our first choice. Hope he has a good backup.

#12, he’s back up. He’s been playing really well when he’s had the opportunity to see the court. TJ had 9 pts, 3 rebounds, 2 assists in only eight minutes of action against the Spurs the other night.

MKG’s was better because of the excitement around it, which was the only thing Archie’s didn’t have, but they were both still awesome.

  31. afhr2
    10:44 pm December 9, 2012 Permalink

I think that was mostly because MKG and the rest of the team were so pumped about it and the only person who came up to Archie was Ryan.

I can see that I’m in the minority with this opinion, but my favorite of the 3 was Jones’ dunk. I miss MKG!! (doubt I’m in the minority on that one)

my takeaway from MKG’s video??…last year’s team (arguably the most talented UK team since ’96…maybe EVER) had an 8 point lead against Portland with less than 16 minutes to go in the 2nd half….calm down people this year’s team is going to be fine!!!!
