If you asked me to rank all of Kentucky’s basketball games this season, tonight’s contest against Eastern Michigan would fall somewhere near or beneath the bottom. And I say that with the upmost respect for the Eastern Michigan whatever-they-ares basketball program. The home school from the Michigan town that gave us Domino’s pizza entered Rupp Arena in a rare, non-conference, 6:00 p.m. weekday game in January and they’re leaving with a beatdown at the hands of your University of Kentucky Wildcats. Kentucky won this one convincingly, 90-38, in the “rebound game” after the loss to Louisville.
Alex Poythress returned to the starting lineup in place of Julius Mays, who came off the bench for the first time since the season opener. A headband-less Willie Cauley-Stein made his second career start for the Cats. Nerlens Noel threw a full court shot attempt over the goal and into the fifth row. Ryan Harrow finally committed a turnover. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist sat courtside with Brad Calipari. Josh Hutcherson was in attendance, too. Kyle Wiltjer was the leading scorer with 17 points.
We’ll have more, including a thorough recap from Mrs. Tyler, throughout the evening. Until then, Go Gators.
