Kentucky will face the winner of Arkansas/Vandy

Alabama’s Trevor Releford hit a 3-point basket at the buzzer to send the Crimson Tide over Georgia 61-58. Moments later, Tennessee secured the win over Missouri 64-62. Neither game changed Kentucky’s #2 seed, but did help secure who will be playing in the 7/10 match-up, with the winner facing Kentucky.

The Tennessee win over Missouri will pit Kentucky against the winner of the 7/10 game between Arkansas and Vanderbilt on Friday night at 7:30 ET in Nashville. Kentucky would most likely face the winner of Ole Miss/Missouri if they advance to the semi-finals.

Tennessee and Alabama both kept their bubble hopes alive with the wins this afternoon. Tennessee now has nine top-100 wins this season.

Kentucky, Ole Miss and Alabama all ended the season with 12-6 SEC records, but Kentucky won the 2-seed by virtue of a tie-breaker (the 1-1 record against Florida ended up being what sent them over).

(Bracket will be coming shortly…)

Actually, no. Missouri is the 6 seed, we they are on our side of the bracket, meaning we could see them in our second game.

Given the choice between playing Tennessee and Missouri in the second game, give me Missouri. Stokes more likely to foul Willie out, which as we saw would be disaster. And a win over them would be ‘good’, a loss not horrible.

BUT THIS TEAM CAN WIN THE TOURNAMENT. PARTICULARLY IF FLORIDA ON THE MORE LOADED SIDE DOESN’T MAKE THE FINALS. UK has as much talent as any team in the country, it’s just all young talent.

PS I’m more afraid of Vandy, as they’ve played UK close twice.

Espn has OLE MISS at the 2 seed with a 12-6 SEC record and a 23-8 overall record…

Can someone help me out? I had a bet with a UNC fan that “UK Would finish above 3rd place in the SEC” I would imagine a #2 seed seals that argument right? He’s saying Bama is 2 and UK is 3. I can’t find any straight answers with all this tie-breaker stuff.

    8,9 – ESPN.com auto-sorts with no regard to tiebreakers.

9.) looks like they used overall record for the tie breaker and not the actual real tie breaker to show standings.

Thx Ally, you are right on with our #2 seed and the reasoning. Unlike so many other outside sources suc as ESPN & CBS. Nice job going thru the formula.

#2!!! Who woulda thunk it?? Go Cats!

10 – I’ve read it’s the W/L record among common opponents. UK wins. Luckily it’s not h2h record

1Cats Fan1: Don’t worry about those standings. ESPN is ranking them first by conference standings and second by overall standings. It just so happens Ole Miss has more wins than we do overall. Georgetown is the #1 seed of the Big East, but Louisville is listed first because they have more W’s

10 – I also read the 2nd criteria is record vs #1 seed, which also bodes well for us now

Again, Mizzou winning would have been better for UK overall. Makes our win against them look poorer and UT’s case for the tourny.

But a win against AK helps us erase that bad loss.

But Tennessee could become top 50 RPI…Mizzou isn’t dropping out of top 50. UK could pick up 2 top 50 wins in one weekend

    20, if Auburn wins, it’s 12.Auburn 13.South Carolina 14. Mississippi St.
If Miss St wins, it’s 12.South Carolina 13. Mississippi 14. Auburn

IF the Cats beat the Vandy/Ark winner, they will most likely face the Alabama / Missouri Winner in the simi-final game

We got the 2 seed because, although all 3 teams tied for 2nd had identical 1 – 1 records against the other 2, we had a 1 – 1 record against the one seed, while Bama and Ole Miss were each 0 – 1 against the Gators
