Kentucky Squeaks By Bama, 77 – 71

The Wildcats struggled to put away the Crimson Tide for…well…for the entire game.  Nothing could kill those pesky fellows, especially Travis Releford – he poured in his plethora of points all in the second half right when UK started their runs.  Luckily, the poor free three shooting early on transformed into “ice water” shooting by Darius Miller and company.  Teague and Davis all hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the win, as well.  The highlight of the finish occurred when Anthony Davis rejected a Bama shot with Kentucky barely ahead in the finals fourteen seconds.

The home win-streak stays alive a bit longer.  The Cats escaped with a 77-71 victory.  Good bye, Alabama.  You fought valiantly.  It was nice of Trevor Lacey to stop by, though.

Seriously, you’re an internet blogger that likely has a journalism degree. Please, proof-read your shiznit before publishing. “Pour” free throw shooting? I know you may think that since most of your fans are from Kentucky and likely can’t spell, but have some pride. There are Kentuckians that CAN spell, man.

Things get better! WE played 11 games when you start with the Transylvania game, and lost that to Indiana. we’ve played 11 more and won, Alabama. We have 11 more to go witch will be Florida! 11, 11, 11! We are going all the way! Actually this doesn’t mean much, but it helps this win go down a little bit better.

KSR is getting worse and worse in terms of writing quality. It’s offensive, and makes UK look bad. Take ten freaking seconds to look at what you’ve written before you post it. And what is “early off”? Is it the opposite of “early on”?

This is a blog, not the New York times. Now to the Cats. I think we should the Tide a lot of credit. They played very well. They were hitting everything and were as physical as the Tide FB team. I believe Cal needs to add some physical players to his recruiting strategy. We could have really used a bulky 250 PF to bring off the bench.

#9. Vargas brings energy and plays hard, but he could be the difference between a W or and L in a tight game because he couldn’t finish a wide open dunk.

    GO CATS!

For all of the KSR front-running T. Jones critics, shame on you yet again, especially for the relentless first half negative comment barrage. We would have lost this game without Jones (15 pts., 6 rebs, 2 blcks). It’s this type of hyperactive and myopic critique of players that turns off future recruits and fellow fans.

Alabama played a physical game and it gave UK some problems. The key was that Davis never hung his head and stayed in the game mentally. How Alabama lost to Vandy on it’s home court is tough to explain.

Anyway my nephew brought this to my attention, during the 3 UK games televised on CBS, all three were close games, and for most of the time the officiating was absolutly horrible. But we took several gut punches and came out with a W. I guess we can expect the same treatment through the rest of the season and through all the tournaments!

Just watched the half-time of Mizz/Baylor game and Doug Gottlieb just said Anothony Davis wasn’t that good. Swear! Andy Katz was saying that we would win the SEC because we have Davis and everyone else doesn’t, and Doug quickly said that he shot poorly and I quote, ‘let’s not act like he is…..’. Katz interrupted him with a compliment that defended Davis, it was very awkward between them. How can anyone say even utter those words?? Just because his point total is low doesn’t even indicate how much he effects the game. Teague gets those open lay-ups because of the auto-lob potential, the constant fear of the defenders shot being blocked. etc…..Why is Doug so butt hurt?? He went to Ok State, and was garbage. I don’t get the constant hate from random scrubs like him? Digger Phelps, Bobby Knight, Hubert Davis, those are all justified. Katz is always saying positives about us….always. I HATE ESPN!!

Oh and I’m not sure if anyone saw this but Fab Melo was sent home and won’t play tonight due to academics and Mookie Jones left the team…WOW!! That could be huge for them! If anything it could disrupt their chemistry. I love it! We all know if that was Davis or Jones with academic issues that the internet would be blowing up right now. Cuse has a lot of bad pub about them this year. That could favor us down the stretch here. Without Melo they are a different team. I’m sure someone will talk to his teacher and that grade will be quickly changed.

    61) We’ve been pretty good at our FT’s recently. Today, not so much, but come on. Do us a favor, jump off the big blue bandwagon and go hug on Boeheims nuts if you like Syracuse that much. We’re fine, we’re ranked #2 and are playing well. Even when we’re not playing great we’re still winning. Unless this teams blows the guys out by 40, shoots 70% from the field, 90% from the line, with 20 assists, 2 turnovers and a dozen blocks, some of you all are just not happy. Alabama did a fantastic job today of shooting around Davis, preventing him from getting his blocks. We played a very mediocre game and still won without too much worry. Relax and enjoy it. Stevie would ask… why so serious?

  67. Mike
    3:43 pm January 21, 2012 Permalink

Gottlieb must have been watching the game today because Davis wasn’t that good. He got some nice boards but that is about it…didn’t seem to have any confidence on offense…went from his best game to probably his worst in last 2 games.

  68. Chris
    3:59 pm January 21, 2012 Permalink

^ True, but you never saw him get frustrated or impatient which would cause him to make dumb mistakes down the stretch (e.g. Terrence). He has that calm demeanor and he got the block that counted.

Davis saw a strategy he hasn’t seen before tonight…throw all the beef you have straight at him in close so he can’t block. He and Cal will develop a counter strategy because this will become a blueprint. Tall beefy teams will take away the lob/dunk unless we can speed up the game with runouts. Davis will just add parts to his offensive game when the dunks aren’t there. He is a smart kid and we have smart coaches. What amazes me about this team is, since Indiana, they never seem to panic when behind and have the ability to gut it out. They have gotten oustanding performances from their competition so far, with several playing out their their minds. What’s not to like about this team, especially when they are not fully developed?
