Never won an Oscar, despite being the lead role in The Departed, Shutter Island, and Gangs of New York. Feel his pain.
Cal might be saying that this team is where it deserves to be, and as fans, we have to admit that they didn’t capitalize on the opportunities they had. But that doesn’t mean that other, non-interested parties can’t comment on how the Wildcats might have been the victims of a slight snub. Ally brought us news earlier that Yahoo! Sports thought that UK was left out in the cold, and you’ll enjoy knowing that they’re not the only ones who think so.
Sports Illustrated also happens to believe that the Cats are among those who could have been deserving of a tourney spot.
Kentucky (21-11, 12-6; RPI: 57, SOS: 70)
The Wildcats’ season changed when Nerlens Noel went down, and while the Cats beat Florida and Missouri at home after that, they looked terrible in all four games away from Rupp, including a lopsided loss to Vanderbilt in the SEC quarterfinals.
GW: Florida, Missouri, Maryland (N)?, at Ole Miss
BL: at Georgia; Vanderbilt (N), at Tennessee by 30 w/o Noel* (in case of bubble tiebreaker)
So while it’s fair to speculate that we should have had a better crack at the tourney than we got, I guess it’s not really fair to compare ourselves to Leonardi DiCaprio. After all, he’s never won an Oscar; we won a title last year. Here’s hoping next year will fix both of those problems (The Great Gatsby, anyone?)
Meanwhile, Randle decides tomorrow, and Dave Telep hears “whispers” that it’s going to be UK. So win or lose tonight, it can still be a good week. Not a great week, cause, you know… NIT. But still a good week. Fingers crossed.
