Kentucky returns 2060 of 5500 allotted tickets for UofL game

In what seems to be a sign of the times so far this preaseson, Drew Deener reports that Kentucky has returned 2060 of its 5500 tickets allotted from Louisville for the Governor’s Cup. The tickets will go on sale to Louisville season ticket holders tomorrow at 10 a.m.

UPDATE: The tickets were only offered to season ticket holders, which begs the question: why not offer them to the rest of the fans before returning them?

UK fans are tired of UK football and are going to get someones attention. UK football is the largest revenue sport at the school we are going to get their attention on the balance sheet. Unfortunatley there will be damage to other sports including basketball because of this action by the fanbase. Already basketball tix and donation requirements have went up to try and compensate for the loss of football revenue.

I actually haven’t given up on this team, but I want nothing to do with Papa John’s Stadium or even going to Louisville. Every time I’m there I feel like I’m in the middle of a Jersey Shore episode. I know the whole city isn’t like that, but I hate that place. Last time I was there, I almost had to shoot someone for throwing a beer bottle at my truck because I had a UK license plate.

As bad as KSR and the UK athletic department want this rivalry with Louisville to grow, the tribe has spoken– Get the hell out of this Louisville game. We gain nothing from it. We foolishly risk our season, unnecessarily. The success this program has enjoyed over the last ten years could have been even greater without this game. Now we are stuck with an in-state rival for recruiting. Rather than get this toss up, season determining game, we should play another out of state program that we can consistently beat, but is a step above the cupcakes on our silver platter schedule.

Pretty simple… everybody thinks we’re gonna lose. I’ve been offered some tickets, and the stadium is five minutes from my house, and I had to think about it for a long time before I decided that I didn’t really want sit through the inevitable verbal abuse. The UK-UL thing is nastier than ever. Harsh feelings from the Final Four.

I love the city of Louisville. I live here and I hope I always do. Still doesn’t change the way I feel about it.

Sadly in 02 I was at the John when I almost got in a fight with 3 younger (early 20’s) UK fans who were throwing stuff at a UofL couple who were about the same age. They were ready to fight when I told them to stop and start representing the University with class. #10 I know that stuff happens on both sides and I hope both fan bases can get to a point where they can at least go to a game without being harassed.

Oh puhhlease guys. Quit making up lies and be a little more mature. You don’t get beer thrown on you here or spit on and our fan base is no more jersey shore than yours is as this metro also has UK fans in it.

Funny to see both sides in a pissing match to determine who will be the best of the “middle of the pack”. Lville is in a crappy conference, and UK will suck until we alteast make an attempt to do something about it or atleast try to.

Lville is doing something about it, but UK STILL refuses to do anything about it – just write the damn check and hire someone already!!! I don’t want to hear about how there isn’t any money either, my season tickets jumped $300 from last year $1300+ to $1600+ and UK wonders why so many people didn’t renew. The cash cow of our athletics program is slowly starving to death…

Is there anyone in here that truly believes that Mitch Barnhart truly sought the best coach in America that he could possibly get his hands on…and he ended up with Joker Phillips?!? He did the exact same thing with Billy G., wanting something for nothing. He wouldn’t have hired Cal unless his job depended on it, which it did.

You can’t survive in the SEC nowadays without a big/proven name attached to the program. We can’t recruit because of our geographic location alone!!

As someone who moved to Louisville many years ago. I have always considered myself a UK fan. I did like what Howard was able to do with the UL program to raise their prominence. I wish he had been given a chance in Lexington first before Claiborne. I am a long time Canes fan and I wore my colors to a UL game against UM a few years ago and was harassed incessantly. I also observed UK fans in Lexington threatening two UL fans at Commonwealth to a point where other UK fans had to step in to protect them. So both fan bases have elements of Jersey Shore mentality. Give it all a rest and quit giving everyone a reason to hate both fan bases.

#35 steve: But your post presupposes that Nick Saban (or equivalent) would take the job if only offered enough money. This is a false premise. The fact of the matter is no “big name” coach is going to be stupid enough to take the UK job when other better jobs are available for the same money every year.

And, that list above that CamoCat put up: Solich, fired by Nebraska; Sherman, fired by Texas A&M; Hill, fired by Fresno State; and Schiano, currently the head coach of the Tampa Bay Bucks. Solich, Sherman, and Hill look like modern day Currys to me, and no coach is leaving an NFL head job for UK – not one.

Leach is the only name that even is a prayer, and I personally don’t see why he would leave Washington State for UK, when WashSt has more tradition and is in a weak Pac-12.

Econimically….not a great deal for the product offered. And that is the UK Athletic Dept fault not just Joker’s fault as most assume.I believe it should be not just a better product on the field but a more econimically feasible cost based on the product offered.

38 Every name on that list has accomplished twice what Joker Phillips has. Fired or not. And your NFL head coach not leaving argument doesn’t hold up, again see Steve Spurrier. I use his name alot because HE WINS!!!!! You can’t argue with that, and if he doesn’t win, he will assemble a very talented team at the very least. Are you kidding when you act like you wouldn’t rather have Mike Sherman (Former GB Packers head coach)than Joker Freakin Phillips?? What planet do you live on?? Solich has compiled a 109-58 record as a head coach!! I should have put Ron Zook on that list too, or is he just not good enough for UK?? He was good enough for Florida to give him a shot.

And by the way 37, I don’t have to take the time out of my life to buy 4 season tickets + pass, travel to Commonwealth, pay for a hotel room, buy food and gas, 6-7 times a year just so I can consider myself a true fan. I’ve been doing that s&*t for 7 years now. That’s well over a $20,000 investment since I started, does that make me any more of a fan than someone who can’t afford to go to just one game? No, but it makes me feel like a damn fool… So keep on funding mediocre football, good for you it must make you proud. The tickets were returned last week by Kentucky from its fan allotment of 5,500 for the game.

61 Yes, while kicking our ass. SC had patience because they should have been thanking their stars they had him, like we would be. He took Florida who was on probation, to a powerhouse in three years!! I hate Steve Spurrier, but the man won 6 SEC Championships, played in the National Championship 2 times and won 1 of them. Please tell me you are not comparing his coaching ability to that of Joker Phillips. If Joker could give us an average of 7 wins a year in his first 5 years, we would all be thrilled, but it’s just not going to happen. By the way Joker hs 6 and 5 wins first two seasons at UK and 2-6 both seasons in SEC…not quite 7,8.

5 – According to your boy @thomasbeisner your allotment of tickets has been available to the general public since July 14th.

50 – I would believe your price argument too if you hadn’t sold 5,353 of your 5,500 in 2010 for the same price (according to @J680Anderson). 71 – Does supporting your biggest revenue sport mean anything to you? I thought ya’ll had the best fanbase in the nation? I thought you had 50%+ of the population in Louisville? Ignorance is bliss.

To everyone- I don’t believe UK added the $30 to the face value of the ticket. That started several years ago, I think by UL, but I could be wrong, to charge more for tickets to the UL/UK game. The increase was not passed along to season ticket holders.

I am surprised that UL didn’t keep the increase when they try to sell them to their season ticket holders, but I suspect they were concerned they wouldn’t be able to sell them either. It only works when the opposing fans teams are willing to pay out the nose for it…
