Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Kentucky on the cover of EA Sports’ NCAA Football 2014? Don’t laugh too hard…

For the past few days, we’ve encouraged you guys to vote for the Cats to be on the cover of “EA Sports NCAA football 2014.” Well, you responded. Kentucky is currently in third place in the voting, behind Nebraska and Texas A&M. Because of the number of teams, EA Sports had to split the poll up alphabetically, with Kentucky leading the A-M teams and Nebraska leading the N-Z teams. Here’s the leader board as of now:

1) Nebraska – 4,973 votes
2) Texas A&M – 3,966 votes
3) Kentucky – 3,043 votes
4) Alabama – 2,729 votes
5) Penn State – 2,023 votes

The thought of Kentucky being on a football video game cover is both surreal and ridiculous when you look at last year’s record. If we did win the poll, which closes on December 31st, would it be the first time a punter would make the cover?

VOTE HERE

UPDATE: Apparently this poll only gets teams to the round of 32. Nevertheless, keep voting!

Hopefully something like this will show the recruits that our fans are on board with football and not only basketball. People will laugh, but this would be a huge asset for our football program.

I am a football purist, and yes, from a national, common sense point of view, it would be sort of ridiculous…BUT, I do agree with #1 in that the young recruits would step up and pay attention with our new coach and the momentum we have going right now. Granted, that momentum is all “off the field” stuff…but we are talking teenagers here.

I believe it is actually just the first round of polling that closes Dec 31st. Then they will narrow the field to the top 32 and have another poll. We can do this BBN.

I really think EA Sports would step in and skew the polls if it comes down to it. There’s no way they let a 2-10 team, which is also a clear basketball school, become the cover of their #2 selling video game.

Don’t forget, fanhood extends beyond just voting. True fans are encouraged to come up with creative ways to represent their team. Impassioned tweets using the hashtag #NCAACoverVote, Instagram photos of campus landmarks, YouTube videos of university traditions and more will all count toward a school’s chances to advance to the next round. In short, fans are encouraged to go all in and represent the team they root for every Saturday!

This is from the voting website… it is also why we will lose…

On the “EA Sports NCAA Football” facebook page there’s a poll asking whether you support Kentucky or Tennessee in what they (incorrectly) term the Border War.

UK is ahead by a comfortable margin, but they’re both just in the hundreds. Seems like more people should vote on this, considering EA’s statement about “other actions” contributing to your school.

I also “Liked” the page but that’s probably unnecessary as I’m not sure they can track *who* voted. Then again, knowing Facebook’s “anti-privacy” rules, Sponsored pages do get a healthy amount of info and stats for optimization and targeting purposes.
