Kentucky not in Jerry Palm’s latest bracket

The popular thing in the national media right now is picking the Cats as a bubble team. Last week’s loss to Texas A&M, who got shellacked by Florida last night, bruised Kentucky’s tournament resume badly, leaving very little margin for error the rest of the season. CBS’ Jerry Palm released his latest bracket this morning, and the Cats didn’t make the cut.

Palm only projects three SEC teams to make the tournament: Florida (as the SEC Champ), Missouri, and Ole Miss. His four number one seeds? Duke, Kansas, Arizona and Louisville. Palm has North Carolina, another elite program struggling this season, playing in the 12-seed play-in game against Iowa State.

Check out Palm’s bracket in full here.

Please. UNC has a much worse resume than UK and somehow they’re in. It really is just “this thing to do” to leave Kentucky out of the tournament

These boys (with the exception of Nerlens) are going to stay boys. Whether because of personal agendas, immaturity, lack of veteran leadership, lack of talent/heart, etc., do not expect a sudden transformation from this group. It ain’t going to happen…this squad don’t have what it takes and they’ll be very fortunate to even get an invite to the Big Dance….Jerry Palm doesn’t think they will and a few more losses will prove him right.

No UNC has a better resume than UK our losses are alot worse then theirs. PLus they’ve beaten better teams up to this point in the seanson. Not saying their leaps and bounds better, just sayin.

The next two road games will be huge in observing the character of this team. A slip up in either game will be another nail in the coffin.

I think we’d have to really screw it up to NOT make the tournament, but I do see that this team might just be capable of that monumental screw up.

That would be very interesting. I would like to see what Cal says about the SEC tournament if we need it to get a bid.

#4 Do you think that maybe, just maybe last year spoiled us? Instead of all the negative descriptions of this year’s Freshmen, don’t you think they just pale in comparison because last year’s group was extraordinary?? That and the past 3 teams have had at least a few upperclassmen to lead. Roll the clock back 20 years and insert this group of Freshmen and we’d all be pretty pleased with their progress. So you say personal agendas, lack of talent/heart could be the reasons. I think your mention of immaturity and lack of veteran leadership are closer to the truth, and those aren’t really character flaws. We are what we are, but don’t be so hard on these young guys.

I can see a scenario where this team does not make the tournament, is a bust in the NIT and then there is no carrot for them to finish the semester and then they screw our team GPA with the NCAA.

#10–I’m not trying to be hard on the guys as much as responding to the article as to the reason the author does not feel we’re going to be in the NCAA’s. Certainly a team ranked #3 pre-season has some ‘plainin to do if that outcome proves true. You’re right, we are spoiled from last year, but this year’s young class has yet to show a winning attitude that most of us, at the very least, expect when they don the uniform.

#12 I get that, but I think most of the media has pretty much admitted they overranked this team. Its a tribute to Cal and his coaching ability and extreme success in his first 3 years at UK. In hindsight, its kind of silly to lose the players we lost including veteran leadership, and expect such a Freshman dominated team to be anywhere near top 5. So maybe its just that the media, and us UK fans, were delusional to expect so much from this group. I would agree that often they don’t display a winning attitude or much heart. But I would also say give them another year to get their feet wet and they would develop a killer instinct (and yes, I realize they won’t be here long enough to do that).

#5 I wouldn’t say that our losses are alot worse then theirs. Just by going with RPI since we know that’s what the committee uses.

Our losses have been to Duke (1), UL (7), Baylor (43), Texas AM (50) and ND (54).
Their losses have been to Miami (4), IU (13), Butler (14), Texas (144) and Virginia (161)

Just to be fair, I hate RPI. I mean Miami at 4? lol

But looking at that I’d definitely say their losses were worse. They do have ONE resume win over UNLV at their place. That’s about it for them.

    Same token
Here would be the losses going by Kenpom

Our losses would be Duke (3), UL (2), Baylor (37), ND (32) and Texas AM (84)
Theirs would be to IU (4), Miami (20), Butler (35) UVA (52) and Texas (85)

    I’m not seeing it.

Well do you really blame him ? Home loses to Baylor, Texas AM. Beat pretty easily by ND and a very poor UT took us to the buzzer basically on our home court. Just have to accept this team isn’t very good.

A couple wins over Florida/Mizzou can cure all. The thing UK has to do is avoid bad losses. Road wins vs Auburn/Alabama won’t help your resume, but losses would be almost catastrophic. Tough place for Cal to be in.

UK will be good enough in March to win the SEC Tournament. So no matter what happens from now until then, UK still has a legit shot at making the tourney.

    #21 – THANK YOU!!!!

#20 – You don’t have to “think”, winning the SEC guarantees you entry!

#16 – besides leaving an “s” out of Losses, A&M and Baylor could beat just about anyone on any given night!

and UT is better than an 8-7 Team, their coach on the other hand, I can not say the same, Bring back Pearl.

The rest of you, Last year was an Anomaly with 18 yr olds, this year is more the norm of what it takes to build their character, team play, bonding, family, etc.

We shouldn’t make the tourney. Allowing a awful Vandy team to score 58 points on us. Losing by double digits at home to A&M and Baylor. Just face the fact that we suck and move on to next year. This team can’t shoot or defend the three. Or defend at all for that matter.

Texas A&M scored 47 points against Florida. Elston Turner scored 40 by himself against us.
