Kentucky moves up to No. 10 in the AP

It only took one game last week for Kentucky to move up in the AP poll.  The Cats jumped four spots to #10 in the AP with the win over Georgia.  Vanderbilt is the only other SEC team to make the Top 25.

Go Cats.

How is Notre Dame ahead of us? Has their Big East schedule been that tough to justify jumping us with a similar record after the butt thumping we gave them?

What? Michigan State isn’t in the top 25?

    That’s crazy…no way we’re a top 10 team right now.

KevinC, while I kind of agree, in feeling and in general, I can’t see any reason to rank most of the teams behind us ahead of us. At best, we could be ranked behind some of the 4 loss teams in the Big East (but not Notre Dame – we thumped them and have essentially the same record).

The Big East is getting way too much recognition here.

Probably back to a 2 seed with this type of ranking. Only 200 votes separate 5-10. That seems about right. Texas with 3 losses is a media favorite right now.

    Notre dame is 9th? I don’t…

6 – Texas has been killing it lately. Texas A&m, Kansas, Missouri. TX is a final four team. They are playing great ball, and Tristian Thompson is not getting the national pub he deserves.

How does BYU move up to 8th after losing toNew Mexico? Duke gets pummled and they drop only 2?

BYU loses and moves up a spot? I wonder how our record would look if Enes and Darnell Dodson played this year…? Happy withing what UK has but just something I wonder.

11, they’re darlings of the media and everyone else. I go on to say they could lose 5 in a row and still be in the top ten.

    8) I agree, TX looks to be for real. I watched that KU/TX game and was impressed.

I also disagree with ND being ranked ahead of us, I don’ t care who they played. Same losses as us (including a butt kicking). We should be #9.

Could it be the precious big east is overrated ?

Quit playing the Big East is over-rated card. Yes, we beat Notre Dame but they have several big wins on their resume recently so they aren’t going to drop behind us. Everyone agreed this year that Duke was the best overall team in the nation yet that get their butts handed to them by a middle of the road Big East team, explain to me how that makes the Big East over-rated?

19 – didnt TN beat the top 2 Big East teams?

Im sorry, but Cuse has lost 4 straight against some weak Big East teams. Big East has no final 4 team. They have quality, but not high quality. Any league in which UL is 2nd, cant be that strong.

    19) Duke isn’t all that great without Irving, so to lose to St Johns on the road isn’t a big deal. If the ACC wasn’t so weak this year, Duke would lose several games w/o Irving playing.

19 – Big East is not very good. If you watch any of their games, you can see this. Pitt, Nova, UL, and Notre Dame are good but, none are very dominate. I mean, UL won a game against UWV in which UWV made 3 to 5 baskets the whole second half. That is not basketball!!!!

    19. Sunday was the 1 out of 10 times that St. Johns would beat Duke. In the words of Gary Parrish, all Sunday shows us was that St. Johns played a spectacular game and Duke played a terrible game. Nothing more.

Big East Basketball is like SEC football, so many teams are highly ranked so when they beat each other they will only drop slightly. Same as SEC football.

#3 you might be right but if we win out this week we do deserve the #10 rank

19 – others have explained it to you, as you asked, but here’s another explanation: Tennessee bets Villanova and Pittsburgh, then loses 3 in a row to Oakland, Charlotte, and USC. Are you following yet?

At least the SEC backs it up in football with national championships.

We are playing our way right into Joe Lunardi’s prediction of either a high two, or the last #1 seed…granted, 6 games left with our toughest SEC foes (FL,Vandy,TN). If we go 4-2 there, and win all others, and the SEC tourney…CAYTS get a shot at a one seed. 3 Big East teams ahead of us and they’ll beat each other up, and no way the committee takes SDSU or BYU over us…it’s the Gonzaga rule.

I like where we’re headed if we can take care of biz.

Guys: IMO I don’t think it’s so much as the Big East being overrated–and believe me I’m NO Big East fan–but, I think it’s a great example of the parity in college basketball. We should still be ranked ahead of ND, though.

…So Kentucky beat ND and ND is one spot ahead of Kentucky?!? BYU beat San Diego St. and San Diego St is one spot ahead of BYU?!? Texas beat Kansas IN LAWRENCE and Kansas is one spot ahead of Texas?!? WTF!!!??!! How can anyone in their right mind say that San Diego State is still a top 10 team? Duke No. 5 after getting romped by a bottom of the pack Big East team?!? ok….Garbage. Who decides this sh#t?!? Thank God this is college basketball and we have a tournament…this is exactly why college football is so ridiculous, because if this were football this poll would be the way it was PERIOD, end of discussion.

We don’t have the depth, size or experience to merit a #10 ranking. That being said, this team is coming along nicely and hopefully we will merit a #10 ranking at the end of February.
