Usually when we post women in Derby Hats, it’s because they slept with Rick Pitino. Not this time (but who can be sure?)
Hurry! Run to your televisions. The North Oldham Little Leaguers are about to start. The Great Lakes (Kentucky) team takes on Ocean View Little League of Huntington Beach, California at 6pm on ESPN 2. Check out our homestate boys and cheer them on – they’re going to need it this time around. The California squad is very good, and probably the best team in the U.S. bracket. The Kentucky kids are pretty good, too, so it should be a battle.
There is one issue, though: Kentucky’s best player (and maybe the country’s?), Griffin McLarty, is ineligible to pitch again until August 23rd. McLarty found his face on this website a couple days ago as he led his team to a victory over PA in heroic fashion. The kid is insane on the mound. Unfortunately for our guys, the little league rules require that a pitcher who throws 65 or more pitches rest three full days before heading back on the mound. McLarty has a big bat, so he won’t disappear from the game.
Either way, this will be a great game to watch. Head on over to ESPN 2 and cheer on these young guys. Kentucky’s 10 man roster is the smallest in the tournament. Let’s give them all a little recognition now, just in case they are eliminated tonight (if they lose tonight, KY will likely go on to face Georgia):
