Kentucky is a two-point underdog

Kentucky will be the underdog tomorrow night for the first time in as long as we can remember when they take the Georgia Dome court against Duke.  The Blue Devils opened as a two-point favorite over the Cats in the first Vegas line.

Kentucky is 0-for-1 against the spread this season.

If we don’t rebound and get some scoring in the paint, we’ll lose by more than two.

Harrow did this at NC State too. Played sick at NC State for big games. Here is a headlineJanuary 29, 2011: NC State @ unc-ch: First, freshman point guard Ryan Harrow, who had taken over a starting position in recent weeks, was unable to participate in the game because of an illness. He spent the game on the bench in street clothes, watching as North Carolina jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the game’s first three minutes.

All I can say is Poythress, Goodwin, and the rest are going to have it bad with offensive fouls the way Duke “takes charges.”

So were the odds on fav to win it all by Vegas, but then they make us dogs for a neutral site game vs Duke? OK.

Yeah, 2, I’m sure Harrow is just looking for an excuse not to play. He probably wishes he could go back to last year and practice every day without ever stepping foot in a game. Like most players who sign with UK, I’m sure he dreads the thought of getting to perform in a big game on national tv. Good thing he’s smart enough to play sick!

@ 5. Yes, Kentucky is a team of freshman, that means at the beginning of the year they will struggle with teams like Duke, whereas vegas believes that by years end they will be the best team in college basketball.

Yes, I’m a troll, but I have a link to back it up: “… State, playing without starting point guard Ryan Harrow (flu), missed 14 of their first 16 shots, and at one point early-on, had been out-rebounded 15-2…”

Absolutely SICKENS me that we are likely going to lose to duke. Team just isn’t anywhere near ready to beat a team like that. Honestly feel like it could be a repeat of the 2011 Maui game and we get blown out. Especially if Harrow doesn’t play, we desperately need his experience for this game with it being this early. Ugh, awful.

Duke is an experienced team with a ton of talent. I am really surprised UK is only a two point underdog. I would have guessed 5-8 in the point range since it is on a neutral site.
And #5 – Even teams favored to win it all can be underdogs, because no one expects a champion to go undefeated. Ya’ll may be in some trouble… like someone said early, Duke isn’t going to miss the bunnies and open looks, won’t give stupid fouls. Experienced, have one of the best coaches in the country. They won’t be like the Maryland slouches. This would be a tough game for last year’s squad… my guess is 89 Duke – 80 UK.

I guess I’m in the minority here- but I will be somewhat surprised if we lose tomorrow. I just think we’re a terrible matchup for Duke (as opposed to what everyone else is saying: Duke is a bad matchup for us). In the end- too much talent, speed, and length for Duke to keep up. Duke has one advantage on us: Experience. That’s it (other than maybe the refs ;)). Whereas we have a lot of advantages over them.

You UK fans always get so bent out of shape over comments when they are counter to what you think! I speak only the truth. Duke is a good team, and one that will most likely beat UK tomorrow night.

    21. Exactly why are you here in this comment section if you are an IU fan? Your trying to poke the bear. Its obvious. And your Hoosiers beat UK on a last second shot on your home court early in the season. What happened when the chips were down and the game mattered? Enough said.

    25. I am a Hoosiers fan but also a basketball fan. That is why I am here. And, IU beating UK in Dec was no fluke. God doesn’t like UK basketball, and that proved it… Okay. I admit that UK last year was incredible, and much to my dismay in March. Some would argue though that, while the final tally was 12 points, IU gave UK as much of a run as anyone, especially against a team out for revenge and playing for the 2nd time that season. Which is my point about the Duke game – experience this time of year means more, especially with your freshamn only playing on one game, and not playing well.

    21) This Duke team is essentially the same one that went out in the 1st round last year, minus Austin Rivers. I’m not bent out of shape, I just think saying this year’s Duke team would have been a tough game for last year’s is a ridiculous statement. And I’d wager 90% of the population agrees with me. And, seriously, no fan base gets bent out of shape more than your fellow Hoosiers, so save the hyperbole.

if duke is hitting 3s (which is likely) then they can win by 10+. if they cant, then our athleticsm & defense may overtake them (esp if we’re hitting our 3s).

    27) This year’s Duke squad minus the best Plumlee lost to LEHIGH in the 1st round. LEHIGH!! Save your experience argument for the IU/Duke message boards. UK was inexperienced last year (better team I’ll give you), but they still went 38-2 and won it all. They were inexperienced two years ago (similar team), and they went to the Final 4. WAKE UP!! Your stance is outdated, just like IU basketball and their candy-striped pants. It’s all about match ups and how well they can execute as a team. Not saying UK’s definitely gonna win, but experience doesn’t matter as much as you and all the other programs recruiting most of their players outside the top 25 say it does.

    29. Put down the blue-tinted glasses. Duke’s loss to Lehigh was a FLUKE. I stand my my comment that Duke would have challenged or beaten UK last season on a neutral court. It is not a “ridiculous” thing to say! If I were to say Pikeville should have beaten UK – yes, that is ridiculous.

Point – They both played UNC at home last season, and they had very similar outcomes – Wins of 6 and 7 points… with Duke a point closer.

Hoosier fans are realistic. We’ve had about 13 years of futility to become more humbled… we’re not always nice, but we have perspective.

The main concern with dUKe is their discipline. If the Cats can play under control, they should win.
I also believe that Cal really wants to win this game more than most other games because it is coach K.
Let’s not underestimate Cals ability to prepare his players now that they have gotten over that first game hump on a BIG STAGE.
As long as Goodwin doesn’t foul out by getting called for 5 charges, and Poythress plays with a purpose, it will be a cat fight.

    3:50 pm November 12, 2012 Permalink

16 – I dont know what you saw from the Marland game that makes you think we are a bad matchup for Duke. Unless Poythress blows up overnight and one of our bigs gets a mean streak, we will lose tomorrow.

    35) Hoosier fans are realistic?!? lol…no seriously stop it. That was too funny. You’re not the 1st IU fan to come on here and try to talk smack. It really says a lot about IU basketball that so many of your fans just can’t stay away from UK basketball, even when your team is ranked #1 (for now). Know how many IU message boards I’ve visited? Zero. We know you want to be us, but you’re making your team and fan base look pretty pitiful.

Last November, in the 1st round of the Maui Invitational, Duke only beat Belmont by one point (77-76)- and they were playing at Cameron Indoor. They were ranked #6 in the nation at the time. Point- I don’t think it’s impossible for UK to win this one by double digits just because it’s early in the season.

    35. Lehigh beat Duke because they had much better guard play. MUCH better. It was no fluke at all. If you think it was then all other arguments you attempt to make are irrelevant. We’ll be the team to beat in March regardless of tomorrow’s outcome. Louisville can’t score, IU can’t guard. Teams like NC State and Arizona are MUCH more worrisome in March than those two.

It’s going to be an interesting game for sure. Hope the Cats will keep it close if they can’t get the win, because a blowout could set their confidence back a little bit. Saying that, the 2010 loss to UConn didn’t seem to hurt them too much. That team was hard forged by the trials and tribulations they went through as they grew through the season.

I think it will be a very close game. I think we win the game because we are quicker and more athletic. Those type of teams always give Duke fits. Honestly who do they have that can step up and take a game over? No one. They have a lot of good players but I’m not convinced they have any great players. Either way, I think it will be a great early test for this young team. I’m looking forward to watching and seeing how we measure up.
