Kentucky football ranked No. 78 by CBS preseason poll

Football season is right around the corner, and while many in Big Blue Nation are not sure exactly how good (or bad) the team will be, we do know that somewhere between Alabama (No. 1) and Georgia State (No. 126) lies your Kentucky Wildcats… Along with the rest of the college football world.

To be more specific, CBS Sports ranks UK the 78th-best team in the country, just better than Ohio, but not quite as good as Rutgers. For what it’s worth, both Ohio and Rutgers finished 9-4 last season, so that might be more of a disappointment for those teams than it is for two-win Kentucky.

Kentucky’s schedule looks like this.

1 — Alabama
5 — Georgia
7 — South Carolina
9 — Louisville
10 — Florida
37 — Vanderbilt
43 — Tennessee
52 — Missouri
49 — Mississippi State
92 —¬†Western Kentucky
109 — Miami (OH)
(FCS) 53 — Alabama State

If you throw out the cupcake game against Alabama State, the average opponent ranking Kentucky will face this year is 37.6.

If you throw out Louisville’s FCS game against Eastern Kentucky, the Cardinals average opponent rankings will be 80.9… Lower than Kentucky – a team many experts predict will win between three and four games.

Hilarious that the Card Tards come on here to talk trash about UK football. They must be frightened about either this year, or what’s going to happen after their lease of Teddy Bridgewater is over.

lol if UL goes undefeated (we all know they wont), all they would prove is that they belong in the top 50

It is very hard to pinpoint wins by looking at the schedule and people are trying to keep expectations real. However, I believe people are gonna be surprised at how much of a difference having good coaching on both sides of the ball is going to make. Just call me crazy if you want to but I see the Cats shocking a couple of teams this year. Last time UK played Nama at home the Cats were a Hartline fumble (literally handed them the game) in his own end zone away from winning. If my memory is correct, that was the only TD bama scored that game. My point being, when a team is playing with one mind and one heart beat, they will have the opportunity to win. I believe in Stoops and I think these kids will win 6 games in spite of the ominous schedule. Go Cats!!!!

    Win 6 games? Hahahahaha. Sure.

The only teams ranked above UK according to that link were:
    39 Cincinnati
    47 UCF
    76 UConn
    77 Rutgers
The rest of UL’s opponents were ranked thus:
    79 Ohio
    89 USF
    90 Houston
    97 Memphis
    98 Tulane
    120 FIU
Now that’s a real juggernaut. UK plays 6 teams ranked higher than their highest-ranked opponent and only 3 teams ranked over 50 (minus the FCS schools for both teams). 9 of UL’s opponents are ranked over 50.

It’s so cute how you hillbillies worry about Louisville going undefeated. Shouldn’t you worry about losing to Western by 20, before worrying about losing to the Cards by 30?

9 If the schedules flipped UK would be 10-2 ish and UL would be about 5-7

11 – Absolutely. I remember a Card fan bragging about their schedule so when Stuart gave us this link I thought I’d check it out. They have no idea what it is like to have to compete in a real football conference week after week. The quality depth that is needed is unreal.

#5… I love how UK fans, such as yourself, keep thinking that UofL will be no good when Teddy is gone. UofL was good before him, and they will be good when he is gone. Teddy just made the great decision by coming to UofL for his college football career.

Uh, I guess that depends on how you define “good”. Lets take the 5 years before Bridgewater as a sample size. In those 5 years before he was the starter at QB, the Cards were playing the same awful competition and had a combined record of 29-33 in those 5 seasons.

Might want to take a second look at how you define “good”, bc I don’t think going under .500 against disgracefully bad competition is an accurate one.

It’s so cute how little brother fans come here (a site for UK sports) to talk trash. Guess they have nothing better to do in the ghetto though. They are 1 Teddy B away from being back to their true selfs, which is utter garbage.
Even though UofL has always played a high school schedule (reason for any success they’ve EVER had in football) I wouldn’t trade their schedule with ours for nothing. I’d be too embarrassed as a fan to root for my team if they had success because of a pitiful schedule.

Louisville will take the weak schedule and beat the living hell out of everyone on it. Then they will go to a BCS bowl and play another SEC team that Kentucky hasn’t beaten in 90 years and win easily.

Then you will all have to shut your faces for another year while saying “wait til basketball season”.

  26. Seriously?

Yeah! Just like Louisville ran through their joke of a schedule unscathed last year! Oh, wait…

25 – Oooh, so touchy about that weak schedule. Kindly point out which SEC team UK hasn’t beaten in 90 years. Oh wait, that’s right, there isn’t one. If you’re going to troll at least have your faycts straight. Hyperbole is so overrated.

  28. Louisville1Cal4

@25 Thank you for admitting that UofL’s atrocious schedule will be the only reason they make a bowl game. Hmm I wasn’t aware there is an SEC opponent UK hasn’t beaten in football for 90 years, must of missed that one.
We don’t expect a big turn around this season, we don’t have the luxury of playing against a 1A high school schedule to rack up wins like UofL.
    Oh & btw, 4>1 & 8>3. After this season it will be 5>1 & 9>3.

If you dont want UofL fans to keep coming over here, then stop making a TOPICS OF UofL EVERYDAY. You would think big brother could come up with something else to talk about. But I guess being at the bottom of your conference is something you dont want to mention too often.

@Jalo you just proved that you all are like us, an average team. Some years y’all are good some not so much. You all would be just like we have been in the SEC doormats. When you actually good/great teams week in and week out its a little bit different than having a month off to prepare and rest before you play someone in a bowl game.

I love how you hillbillies try to bring UL down to your pathetic levels. Here’s a hint: they’re not. You’re awful. A laughing stock. A doormat. And you’re SEC in name only. The rest of the league laughs at you–all of them. Even Vanderbilt. You lost 40-0 to Vanderbilt. Let that sink in. If Charlie didn’t like Joker he’d have hung about 55 on you last year. You’re the dumbest, most arrogant fanbase in AMerica. A 2-10 team talking smack to a team that steam rolled them AND bitch slapped a team you haven’t beaten in 27 years in a BCS Bowl. You’re not equal. You don’t even compete in the SEC. You roll over. You’re a joke of a program. Louisville is no joke to anyone except in your pea-sized inferiority complex having brains. No wonder America hates you.

Rubes… First off I live in Louisville and according to the rest of the country, that is not in the south, if you live in KY you are a hillbilly. Oh and last I checked my fair city of Louisville is in KY. So, when you throw that word around in a negative way you are in the eyes of most Americans including yourself.
I have not seen anyone here claiming powerhouse status when it comes to UK fans. We leave that to our delusional 50% of the city of Louisville’s population we affectionately refer to as “Tards”. So remember this … The next time you come to this board to stretch your mental horizons and enter into a battle of wits… You are entering said battle HALF ARMED.

Talks of Louisville’s SOS are hilarious l, because you folks act as though we won’t be proving how superior to you we are on the field. And you act as though this Louisville team didn’t thrash those Gators you haven’t bested in three decades.
