Kentucky Fares Poorly in CFN’s FBS Rankings

Don’t worry, he’s just smiling because he found a piece of candy in his pocket.

Did you know that Kentucky football is currently not ranked in the Top 25?  That may or may not surprise you, depending on whether you’ve watched any football this season, or read anything in the paper, or been awake in the last month, but it’s a hundred percent true.

But did you also know that Kentucky football is currently not ranked in the top 100?  That one may come as a bit more of a surprise.  But as KSR reader @UKBerry pointed out to me yesterday, according to College Football News Kentucky is the 102nd best team in the nation.  That’s so low, actually, that if you were to do a Bottom 25, with the worst team as #1, Kentucky would be #23.  We’re in the Bizarro-Top 25.  We’re in the fifth of the class that makes the other four-fifths possible.  Is any of this getting the point across?  We’re really bad.

In fact, we’re the lowest-ranked BCS school by 10 places.  The next-lowest is Washington State at #92, under the dubious Mike Leach.  We’re immediately below heavyweights like Florida International, SMU, and Akron, and right above Troy and Bowling Green.  The victim of our single victory so far this season, Kent State, is sitting pretty at #105.

So, this is bad, but what does it mean for Kentucky?  Well, unfortunately, this doesn’t catch me off guard too much.  I’d like to say I’m a little incredulous, but I’m really not.  This might be one of the lowest points Kentucky football has had in many years, and the light doesn’t look much brighter with the SEC schedule in full swing.  November 17th holds some promise, as the Samford Bulldogs come to Commonwealth Stadium for a hopefully-enjoyable home game.

Until you realize that Samford is 4-0 and sitting atop the Southern Conference.

Is there a happy ending to this season?  Or, better question, what’s the best we can hope at this point?  Personally, I’ve resigned myself to just rooting for Washington State to lose horribly, so that we can at least say we’re not the worst BCS team.

At this rate, that may take a while.

What do fired coaches do with all that stuff: Kentucky shirts, pants, sweatsuits, hats, coats, belts, golf club bags and head covers? Just thinking.

I understand that we are pretty much at the lowest point right now as a football program, but with the potential of big change coming at the end of the season(coaching staff,) on top of the very young team that we have coming back, I can’t help but be excited.

I know it’s taboo to talk about next year, but think about it. Next year is going to be the first year since I believe Woodson’s senior year, that there won’t be a change of the main position guys, (QB, RB, LB.) Add a new coaching staff with a refreshed, new feel, and there is some real potential there.

Washington State is above us? And all these Leach haters say he wouldn’t be an improvement for us.

Washington State is AWFUL too. It will take Leach 3 years to turn that thing around, but I guarantee he does. We are sorry sorry excuse for a program. #SonnyDykes2013

All you Joker haters need to stop complaining! Its not like we are the worst team in college football! There are still 22 teams worse than us! Joker will get us turned around… again. This time in the right direction!!! You complainers are the real JOKE! haha. Give Joker a chance, when he gets his own players into the system we will be a lot better! Maybe even crack the Top 100!

    Sorry, I had to.

#6: I’m guessing 3 wins. Aside from Samford, there will probably be one other (LUCKY) win which will get the opposing coach fired.

Maybe that’s out FB motto: “Kentucky Football-If we beat you, your coach is getting fired.”

With Western Kentucky ranked 78, Louisville 19, and Florida 6, that’s a combined ranking of 103 for the teams that have squeaked by us this year. #BrightSide

My guess is ksr has word from someone that there WILL BE a coaching change. The past 2 weeks of posts on ksr have been anything but complimentary. This is the exact opposite of what posts and comentary were all about leading into the season. I figure ksr has been told to help in making the case that joker has run us into the ground and unable to pull us out. Just wish ksr hadn’t held water for the AD depatment preaching that this year would be different. 90% of fans knew joker would not do a good job as HC. UK football is a dumpster fire.

We are the black eye on any SEC is top conferece arguement. It still is of course, in spite of our best efforts. Here’s to hoping for an upset or two at least.

Keep rooting for the kids — they came to UK — many had other choices — let’s let them know we are proud of their effort/urge them to continue to improve — even while unsatisfied with the results. GO CATS!~!!

#13, incorrect! Apparently you don’t follow our football team, attendance, etc. There is ZERO chance he comes back next year. On his weekly call-in show on Monday, even with the ‘screened’ and ‘paid for’ Joker supporters saying he deserved to finish his contract, Joker said contracts didn’t mean anything. He’s donezo and KSR knows it!!!

I’ll add that there is some teeth to Bobby Petrino rumors as well. Not only is L1C4’s personal media supporter, Pat Forde, even saying there’s a good chance of Petrino/UK, but media is asking John L about it specfically. Folks, if it happens, could be best football move in the last 30+ years of UK football!!!

I have a love/hate with Petrino. Sure, I think he could turn the program around LOuisville and Arkansas also thought he could turn their programs around, and keep them there…. they were both only half right.

    1 – Think eBay
Get Petrino, but remember that you know the package:
    1. You can’t trust him to stay (and he won’t) but he is damaged merchandise which may delay his departure.
    2. He brings in thugs but has enforcers to control them (Watch out next coach!)
    3. He WILL win.

Has anybody given any thought to the notion that UK could end up with a coach no better or worse than Joker? Seriously, why would any coach want to come to UK to coach football. An established name, even one with baggage, can get a better job – more tradition of winning, in a weaker conference, better program in a BCS conference, better state to recruit, etc. A young, hot coach could / should rightfully view UK football as a career killing job. So, who is coming here, even if Mitch shows them the money?

@10 WKU is getting top 25 votes. Thus, I fail to see how they could be ranked 78. In fact, I believe they are ranked in the low 40s.
