Little sidenote story here…..in the three years I have been doing this, I have met a great number of journalists. While I like to make fun of most of them, generally speaking, most people are fairly nice. There are a couple of dolts and nearly everyone is dorky, but generally the folks who cover sports are, much to my dismay, good people. But in all the years of meeting people who cover sports, I have found none to be a bigger SOB than Mark Bradley of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. I met Bradley at the SEC Tournament a few years ago and famously (at least to me) got into an argument with him on press row, that had Chris Dortch (who is the best) of Blue Ribbon Magazine later telling me that he had never seen Bradley more flustered. (It involved Bradley talking about UK fans and what he thought of them after his time in Lexington). I told Mark Bradley at some point that I was glad for his sake that people in Atlanta didnt care about college basketball….because if a reporter with his knowledge was in the Lexington or North Carolina areas, they wouldnt be able to get a job “interning for Jerry Tipton” (those were my actual words). Lets just say that at SEC Tournaments since then….we arent on each other’s immediate hello lists.
I say all this as background to his blog post today in which he calls UK a “program barely worthy of comment.” Bradley of course has to comment in order to call the program one barely worthy of comment, but in so doing, I hope the UK fans will show their wrath again. It couldnt happen to a nicer fella.
