Kentucky falls to No. 2 in’s class of 2014 team rankings (I can’t believe I just wrote that)

Here’s a sentence I never thought I’d write…

The Texas Longhorns just passed Kentucky to claim the top spot in the class of 2014 football rankings; Kentucky dropped to No. 2 on the team list. Tennessee, Texas A&M and Alabama round out the top five.

I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel about this. My body doesn’t know how to react. Should we pretend to be upset? What do we do? We’ve never been here before.

4 SEC schools in top five. Early, yes, but still oh so sick.

Really don’t know that Stoops is our best bet at turning this program around. First Matt Elam “enjoys” his Notre Dame visit, now we’ve dropped in the recruiting rankings? I guess it’s true we will always be a basketball school.

Is anyone else here as concerned as I am about Stoops going after these three-and-done players? How will we get to know and love them? I just don’t like how this flies in the face of traditional UK football.

Kentucky fans expecting to see anything better than a 2-4 win season this year better prepare themselves. The coach is trying to change the culture of the team, the state, and based on 50k at the spring game, that is happening. I know you UK fans are hungry for it. As an Indiana football and basketball fan I feel your pain. Indiana has been dismal on the gridiron. The first year Kevin Wilson (not comparing Stoops to Wilson, though they do come from same Stoops coaching tree) won one game. This past year, Indiana won four. Of the eight losses though, four were lost by a total of 10 points, which means they were close to being much, much, better in the WIN column. Wilson hasn’t come near the recruiting prowess out of the gate, so the turnaround maybe be quicker, but playing in the SEC will be crazy tough compared to Indiana in the B1G. Just saying you may want to just cool those jets a bit, because a first year coach and the 2014 recruiting class arent going to beat Bama, Florida, or even Western easily.

    Enjoying the sarcasm today…
Of course Elam is going to say nice things about OSU and Notre Dame. He’s a class kid. It’s not like he’s visiting Campbell and Canisius.
Barker will end up a 5 star. If we get Matt and Berrios (fingers and toes crossed/ eyes are always crossed), we could end up in the Top Ten instead of the Bottom Ten as usual.
Of course, there will be Texas, Miami and seven other SEC schools rated above us.
Stoops has simply got to get with the program and get us some players!

    14) What is the difference between getting someone in Bowling Green and someone in Cincinnati? Bottom line is football in KY is not emphasized at a young age, basketball is. In Ohio its just the opposite. Ohio produces nearly 200 D-1 players a year. We have 4 of the top 10 in ohio. All are 4-stars. All are ranked in Rivals top 250. So you want to trade those guys for KY guys? Rivals has a top 60 in Ohio. They have a top 5 in KY. That’s says something. The best UK player we have in Drew Barker… We are in the mix for Matt Elam. Joker wouldn’t have a shot at either. Joker didn’t have a shot at Hatcher or Timmons…. I hope you are joking….

You guys already try to compare your basketball program with ours. Leave our football team alone lol. We may be bad but good Lord you guys are on a whole different level of mediocrity.

I do agree with you about not getting over-zealous about wins this season, but you have to start a turnaround somewhere. I think I can speak for most Cats fans when I say I’m glad somebody has finally grabbed the reigns and headed in a new direction. I’m excited for this upcoming season regardless of the projected win/loss columns.

It is going to be a wait for these last few positions to fill up….July 9th we will likely get our last one before the season…. TV Williams. I think Berrios will eventually get an offer from Miami and he will wind up there…Miami is his dream school. We are considered the leader for Nick Richardson (19th best OT in the nation, top 200 guy overall)… he could pull the trigger early. Then it becomes a waiting game at the WR position for these Guys:

    Blake Bone****
    Artavis Scott**** (top 90 player)
    Stanton Truitt*** (5.7)
    Braxton Berrios****
    Moral Stephens**** (top 200)

UK wants 2 or 3 of those guys….The other 5 spots would be for DL/OL/LB ….maybe another DB

its going to become a waiting game for these last 8 spots… just be patient.

UK ends the year with a 10-15 recruiting class…

It’s not how you start it’s how you finish! When it’s all said and done we will not maintain that Top 5 class but would like to see UK finish in Top 20 and its feasable the way Stoops has been out hitting the recruiting trail.

#28 are you a UK basketball fan? How many KY kids, going back to the Rupp years, have been on the roster? About 2 per year. Yeah, lets sign exclusively KY kids and then we can move out of NCAA D-1 into the NAIA and play Georgetown College, Centre and Hanover with 1,200 fans in attendance.

UK will probably finish 15-20 in the final rankings, possibly 10-15 if they land a couple more big time players. But anytime UK lands a class in the top 25 it is quite impressive. Once Bama, Florida, LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, etc. get their 25-30 commits they will end up in the top 10 as usual, pushing UK out. Great start for Stoops though.

According to the big three recruiting sites (Rivals, 247, ESPN) UK seems to only have a chance to stay in the top 10 on Rivals rankings, and even then they only count your best 20 commits. The other teams I mentioned earlier tend to have better quality while UK’s class is more quantity oriented. At least we are competing with other SEC schools for some of these recruits instead of the MAC.

Don’t know if a lot of these are trolls, as much as Cat fans having a little fun with sarcasm.

16, UK football fans are well-aware of our track record in the SEC, and we are also quite aware that we will have the toughest schedule in the country next year, bar none. No one but the most delusional fan is really expecting more than 4 or 5 wins, at best, next year. Still, we are going to enjoy our little moment in the sunshine, however brief it may be, and hope for mostly sunny skies a few years down the road. I know things have been pretty dismal in Hoosierland, but that’s no reason for you to try to pizz on our parade.

Well stoops has definitely turned things around. I am not so thrilled about our cats being ranked number 2, after all if one looks at the average, there are probably 20 teams with a higher average. But to even have this much excitement in june about football, is just plain awesome.

I’d bet the house Elam is UK bound, his heart will take him there. Elam should be looking at who he will have blocking next to him, not what the fans are telling him is best for him. Lining up on Alabama’s line will only make him better versus getting double teamed on UK’s line. If you want to be your best, play with the best.

Regarding ranking, it looks like UK could tumble several spots as soon as the classes at 2 – 10 get their total count up to reach KY’s.

It’s a good class, Elam will make it better.

@24 AirRaid – do you honestly think Louisville fans are scared of all this? We’re returning much of the team that absolutely wasted, live on national television, a team you haven’t beaten in almost 3 decades. Plus, our recruiting class is pretty good, too. Good to see Big Blue Delusions run deep in football, too.
