Kentucky and South Carolina by the Numbers

– Statsheet.com does a good job of previewing the Cats’ contest today with the Cocks. Stat Sheet is no KenPom.com, but it is free. Which is nice. We have just over five hours until tip-off in Lexington, so rest assured we will cover this game from nearly every angle.

– Like Ken Pomeroy’s site, Stats Sheet focuses on their own “four factors” to compare the two teams. As you can see, Kentucky leads the Gamecocks in every category. UK’s FT% (different than ‘rate’) is 70%, while Scar posts a 68.8%.

– We know Kentucky scores in bunches, but the average Points Per Game number should overwhelm Carolina, especially when compared with their opponents’ average PPG. UK’s FG% at  48.5% is very high, and even higher when you consider their SOS. With 345 D-1 basketball clubs, UK’s SOS at #101 puts them safely in the top third. That is an impressive resume line for this young team.

– I don’t know what this graph means. Maybe some of you do. Pomeroy’s ratings address important factors like effciiency and tempo, but Stat Sheet provides the only stat some of you care about: the point spread (UK -21).

Boring post. This has little or no important information about the game today. Why not just mail it in? As you can see by the lack of responses on here the last few posts by your staff, this stuff is not keeping me coming back checking the site out like to use to.

The graph shows the # of each of those things each player has posted for the season, and the bottom is the % – so Teague has scored 156 points on the season, accounting for what looks like about 13% of our points on the year.

Thank ya 6). I thought that was a map of the counties in Wyoming.

And 3) I’m sorry you feel that way. We churn out a number of posts on the weekends, with a 4 p.m. tip it makes it tough to space out the previews. My goal was to put the free info out there early so you can draw your own conclusions this morning. We’ll get more in-depth this afternoon. Thanks for reading.

I love me some stats! I personally like to see this kind of stuff before a game. The graph was awesome! If you study it just for a moment, you can see that it is a true indicator of who brings what, to the team. I was actually kind of shocked to see that Teague has had way more assists than anyone else. To hear everyone talk, you would think Teague would be getting .5 assists per game (yes, that’s half of one, for those of you who do not understand). I think this team can be way better, but people need to realize that this is one of the best teams to play at UK. They need to be pushed but not brought down (i.e. TJ and Teague).

we’re starting to play some defense. & UF is embarrassing themselves. right after a loss to rutgers. coach k, i mean, donovan is just letting his team get outplayed.
how does a team with so many guards foul so much & shoot so poorly?

If you have DirecTV and you don’t have the sports package, I have awesome news! ESPN Full Court is having a free preview starting today! The Cats game will be on channel 725. The only downfall is it looks like the game is not in HD.

#10 – Bulldawg – A blind goat could be the point guard for this years Kentucky team and have just as many assists as Teague.

Just think about who he’s passing the ball to.

There’s not one person he could pass to that can not knock down the shot. He’s actually got the best odds of getting the assist than any other PG in the country, just simply because of the capability of all the players around him.
