Kent State falls to Kentucky, 47-14

Kentucky got the job done in its season opener with Kent State, 47-14. It was a coming out party for senior wide receiver Aaron Boyd; he caught 11 passes for 100 yards, including his first career touchdown. Freshman wide receiver DeMarcus Sweat also put his first career points on the board on a 56-yard pass play from Max Smith. Smith threw for 359 yards and four touchdowns.

Rashawn will be by with more soon.

Beat the teams you are supposed to beat. It’s a W. I will take it. I look forward to all the complainers finding infinite fault with this game as well.
Thank you Cats for the W. let’s get some more.

Congratulations to Joker Phillips…one of his last wins as UK head coach comes against a team from the MAC. WOW!!! Be still my beating heart…LOL.

And they’ll look good again next week as well against another lower level school. The question is, what happens when they go back to actually playing someone worth something?

Great feel good win but D still sucks…no pass rush, no pass coverage, still shakey tackling.Think we still gave up about 400yds.

This team could be a lot like th 06 team. Offense looks great. Smart move moving Dupree to the Will. Glad they got #10 out of there he cost us at least 14pts against UofL. Like what I saw out of some of the young line backers.

Did I miss something…..where was D. Collins? Can we all just agree that Morgan Newton doesn’t need to see the field anymore? He’s not any good at the wildcat or regular quarterbacking.

    28. Good point if not rather obvious. It is sad though that we couldn’t score any points in that quarter. When was the last time UK has really came out fired up to play football at beginning of game under Joker??

Cats win, Ill take it. If we had better facilities we would have won by a hundred instead we only won by 30…joking.
You could have the best facilities and a mediocore coach and have mediocore results. on the other hand you could have a good coach bad facilities and an awesome football team. I like commonwealth and the football Cats and believe we just need the right person to ignite a Champion. It may be Joker or someone else but it can be done.

Gotta say, the entire team looked better after the 1st quarter. Although it was a MAC team that we were supposed to beat, I still say good on ’em. Hopefully this will carry on through WKU and on into SEC play.

I don’t know if it’s the play calling or Max Smith’s skills, but UK actually looks credible throwing 15-25 yards down field this year, and that’s opening up the screens and the running game. Last year Newton couldn’t keep the defense honest, so all the screens and QB keeps got stuffed. That’s the best the offense has looked since Hartline’s best games, maybe since Woodson. Max Smith is a star.

It’s a shame we couldn’t have redshirted Trevathan and Guy last year. Combine last year’s defense with this year’s offense, and I think you’ve got a 7 win team with a chance at 8. (The mad scientist who conjoined this year’s defense with last year’s offense would earn 0 wins…and eternal infamy.)

If beating a team of this caliber is our definition of success, then we are really delusional & sad. We beat a cupcake team we should have blown out. He beat a team that the Vegas line opened at 10 points moved to 7 & closed at 6 1/2.

Remember this win when we are getting blown out by some SEC team; this win is going to seem like a distant memory at the end of the year.

37- I don’t understand you. UK did blow out Kent State 47-14, unless thats not your defintion of a blowout?

  40. Brandon

39 – Probably referring to the fact that it was a three point game almost eight minutes into the third quarter. Sure, the final score is convincing, but it’s not really indicative of how close it was for over half of this game.

#39 What don’t you understand: we did exactly what we were supposed to have done, we blew out a cupcake Mac Team. Vegas had such little respect for us, they had a line at 6 1/2; that is f’ing pathetic & speaks volumes. This is going to be a long 3 win season.

#43 I think he is trying to say you don’t get points for doing what you are supposed to do. In other words WE SHOULD blow out a MAC team. Some people act like we just beat Alabama. If this team could upset Georgia, maybe get Florida etc then hell yeah I say jump up and down and act like a clown but for God’s sake don’t do it because we beat a weak MAC team. By the way I personally don’t think we stand a snowball’s chance in hell of beating any of the SEC teams I have seen play so far this season.

I think everyone should keep in mind how completely horrible Kent State is. For them to score 14 points is a huge failure for UK. I don’t care if UK won by 50, they still allowed 14 points by Kent State.
