Karl Towns had a Hurricane Sandy epiphany

We’re 18 hours away from Karl Towns announcing his college decision. Town is currently in the 2015 class, so he has plenty of time to decide, but Towns’ dad told USA Today’s Jason Jordan that his son had an epiphany during Hurricane Sandy that led to him setting a decision date:

“You just have all the time in the world to reflect when you don’t have power,” said Towns’ father Karl Towns Sr. “He came to us four days after we got our power on and said he wanted to set a date to make a decision. We were a little shocked, but we supported it. He just didn’t want the whole process to weigh on him. He’s got other things to worry about.”

Towns maintains that he has no idea what school he will pick, and probably won’t until tomorrow morning, but most analysts predict he’ll pick Kentucky because of his ties to Coach Cal and Orlando Antigua, who coached him on the Dominican Republic National Team. Towns says those rumors are “crazy”:

“I hear it all of the time, mostly from my classmates,” Towns said of the Kentucky rumors. “It’s just not true. It’s crazy the things that people come up with, but see that’s more of a reason I don’t want to string this thing out. The rumors are crazy.”

We’ll see what’s so crazy tomorrow morning.

All these recruits always say they haven’t decided until the day of. When you’re trying to decide what to tell your friends about where you’re going to college as a student, you might decide several times at the last minute. When you know it’s gonna go all over recruiting and be on tv and such, I’m thinking most of these kids do know, and whether consciously or not, they’re just playing coy to keep attention.

No offense to Karl, but if he really doesn’t know where he’s going to go to school, he needs to delay his decision and not make it right before he walks into a full gym in front of cameras. Yes, he can still change his mind after (Terrence Jones, anyone?), but his decision impacts multiple basketball programs and their recruiting, not just his plans for college.

The article mentions that he wants to pursue Kinesiology. If that is the case two teams on his list (IU, OSU) are listed as top programs for that discipline. Not sure if UK has a degree in this field, or how highly ranked it is. Wondering if this will be much of a factor in his decision?

He knows where he’s going. He’s just trying to add some suspense and have fun with it.

    3. UK does. A couple of my friends studied Kinesiology. Not the highest ranked but not too shabby either.
