Kansas and Florida State were Wiggins’ final two

The biggest surprise in the Wiggins announcement may have been that Kentucky wasn’t even in his final two. According to Keith Morehouse, who was in the building during the announcement, Wiggins’ final two were Kansas and Florida State.

Kansas now has the second best recruiting class in the country…behind Kentucky. See you in March, boys.

I knew things didn’t bode well for UK when he decided to do a closed, private ceremony. He didn’t want to feel the disappointment in the air from the majority of the school who are UK fans.

I wish AW the best, and remain grateful for the beast of a winning attitude we have in Julius and the Harrison twins.

Agree #18. What separates us though is our depth. There won’t be a big drop-off at any position other than maybe PG if there’s foul trouble or an injury. And if Aaron can play the PG and Young the 2 we’re still fine. Other schools will have a much bigger drop off when there’s foul trouble, or when the bench comes in. We’ll increase our lead at that point.

@19 Might sound funny to say but after watching the All-Star games I liked what I saw in Randle more. Sure Wiggins is a freakish athlete, but he shy’s away from the attention that comes with being elite. Randle is very skilled, confident, and a natural leader. Look what he did with a sub par high school team after returning from his injury. He ran through the Texas State Championship. I like his demeanor and his approach to next season from the things he’s said. By the time I finish this paragraph I will have almost forgot about Andrew Wiggins. Julius Randle will command the attention of everyone in America next year, along with the rest of our NBA squad.

  33. George

  37. SeoulCat
    1:05 pm May 14, 2013 Permalink

#19, The two players are more or less equal in talent, but Randle has the body, intensity, and drive that UK needs up front. Wiggins strikes me as the type to shy away from adversity, challenges, and contact. Randle is the kind of guy that when jabbed in the face, will counter with a knockout uppercut. Randle all day.

If you logically think about this its pretty easy to figure out.
    1) The whole scared of the limelight/ spotlight is clearly false in regards to Wiggins. KU fans are just as passionate as UK fans. So we can just disregard that whole argument

    2) It my opinion, It seems as if Wiggins just did not want to compete for playing time/ deal with the talent shuffle that will occur next year. He knows he can go to KU and basically get as much PT as he wants/ shots as he wants etc.. Not saying thats a bad thing, but just stating what is obvious. Also going to KU means he is closer to his brother, which I am sure factored into his decision.

Clearly I wanted Wiggins at UK, but maybe this is a blessing in disguise. We will have a great team next year wihout Wiggins. Maybe adding him would have been too much when considering playing time/ shot attempts for everybody else. Either way the kid is irrelevant to me now. Godd luck at KU Andrew and hopefully we see you and the Jayhawks come march.

A year ago, he says that UK would be a good fit. Then, the rest of the class signs…and he bails. Honestly, I’m ok with losing a guy who thinks it’s all about him, shys away from competition, and can’t handle sharing the spotlight; because ultimately, that guy isn’t too concerned about WINNING. We got guys that WANT TO WIN. Take solace, BBN.

#39, ALL of the schools were a good fit or they would not have been in his final list. Only KU offered a competitive team, the opportunity to be the primary option AND the opportunity to live close to his brother. Add in renowned S&C coach Andrea Hudy and KU ended up landing the services of Wiggins.

Next year will be yet another exciting year of basketball with most of the big power programs sporting good teams. UK, KU, Louisville, Michigan State and Carolina will all have excellent teams. Should make for another great year.

Good luck to UK next year. Calipari is doing a masterful job there. I love when the blue bloods are all strong, it makes the competition that much more fun.

They really just didn’t say that Kansas has the 2nd best recruiting class of all time. Their class isn’t even close that would be the Fab 5. This kid didn’t wanna compete with the talent we have coming here to Kentucky. Everything this kid said was a lie. He said he didn’t wanna be in the spotlight but yet he drug this recruitment out as long as he could. Then he decides to go play for a team like Kansas that has nothing to gain. He is the only legit 5 star they have coming in. Selden is overrated and the center we have would smash Joel hands down. I looked at the recruit rankings and there is only one top ten recruit going to the big 12 and that is Wiggins. He wanted to go somewhere that he could be in the spotlight and beat up on no name recruits in practice he is a joke and Bill Self is going to do to him what he did to the other recruits and that is make his stock go down and make him a bust.

Rock Chalk Wiggins is a Jayhawk…yep we will see you in March…UK fans down play everyone but UK. 83, Self has done well for himself of late, but you can’t argue that Josh Selby was not a disappointment. Xavier Henry was pretty much a bust as well. Cal had a couple of players who “failed to launch” this past year in Goodwin and Poythress, but neither of them were nearly as highly ranked as Selby or Henry. Based on this, I can’t really see how you can say that Self gets more out of his players than Cal.

#84, Selby wasn’t allowed to even practice with the team until after the season started due to his eligibility issues and then hurt his foot at the end of his first game. He was never the same. Doctors told him to sit out the rest of the year but knowing he was a one and done, he did not want to do that. The kid won the MCD’s slam dunk contest yet I have never seen a player get rim blocked on dunks so many times in my life. He was never right physically.

Henry was a bust? Let’s compare two players seasons:

    Doron Lamb ’12: 31.2mpg, 13.7ppg, 2.7rpg, 1.5apg, 0.5spg
    Xavier Henry ’10: 27.5mpg, 13.4ppg, 4.4rpg, 1.5apg. 1.5spg

Henry wasn’t an All American, but he had a solid freshman year. No one was talking about him as an uber-NBA talent, but he still went in the NBA Lottery at #12.

And did ANYONE think that Ben McLemore was going to be a Top 2 pick in the NBA Draft before he decided to go to Kansas? Self has done just fine. Wiggins will average 20+ ppg and will be the #1 pick in the Draft next year. Book it.
