Kandahar Cats want late night notes

It’s getting late.  It’s been a long day.  Tip-off will be here shortly.  Let’s knock these out quicker than the Cards….

 – Even if the Cats had put a beating on Princeton Thursday, the feeling would be the same heading into Saturday.  West Virginia is scary for a lot of reasons.  There is, of course, the haunting feeling of last year’s disappointing game in the Elite Eight, Bob Huggins’ strong history against Calipari and the fact that the Mountaineers are just boring.  And boring is scary.  The Mountaineers are not remarkably good at anything, but they’ll do all the dirty work and frustrate their opponents into making mistakes that aren’t typically in their nature.  For a team that is young and has shown some weakness in games where their opponents have tried to outmuscle them, there’s legitimate reason to be concerned.

 – If Kentucky is going to advance, the freshmen will have to bounce back from an abysmal showing against Princeton.  As well as Darius Miller and Josh Harrellson have played in the last four games, Kentucky cannot count on them alone to beat West Virginia.  The law of averages plays in the Cats’ favor and I’d be shocked if Brandon Knight struggled so mightily again.  But, as mentioned above, the Mountaineers are at their best when they’re making their opponents make uncharacteristic plays.

 – In words that we might not have ever thought we’d say, Eloy Vargas could factor into Kentucky’s ability to beat West Virginia.  The Mountaineers aren’t necessarily a big team, but they’re one that rebounds hard collectively.  If the Cats can get 10 productive minutes from Eloy Vargas on the glass and get another block or two from him, it could be exactly what they need.

 – If you’re in Tampa, the pep rally will start at 10am at The Luxury Box across from the St. Pete Times Forum.  The band and cheerleaders will arrive at 11.  Check it out if you’re in town.

 – In case you missed it, Tennessee got absolutely smacked by a mediocre Michigan team, 75-45.  The Vols scored 16 points in the second half, which could eventually end up being the final 20 minutes of Bruce Pearls’ Tennessee tenure.  Even more embarrassing, Michigan became the first team to win an NCAA game after not making a single free throw (they attempted only one).  And they won by thirty points.  Goodbye, Pearl.

If you missed the show Friday or if you were distracted by Will Lentz’s photo in the afternoon notes, here’s the podcast again.  It was a great day of celebration that included Morehead coach Donnie Tyndall and Tom Leach.  Check it out.

Wow! The Vols are even more pathetic than the Dirty Birds, if that’s possible. They just quit on their coach and their school. Gutless turds they are, nothing more.

My girlfriends parents got tickets to the final four last year. West Virginia f’ed me…sideways. I want Mizzoula to leave on a ***king stretcher. He’s a racoon a$$hole. Bob Huggins is the best in-game coach ever, Calipari rolls the ball out on the court and talks to the refs more than the players thats how it is fellas I wish it was the other way but I’m scared. I’m fat and white and play ball as such, and I feel like West Virginia could win with me at point. But here is what is gonna happen. Harrellson will not lose…he doesnt want to and he wont, hes gonna make throuoghman eat $hit…so is my main man elroy. Harrellson will go for 20 and 14, elroy will go for 2 and 7…we will win but Im scared as f. please get revenge on these inbred bastards…please

remember last year when people were concerned about Wake in the 2nd rd and we came out and throttled them? Not saying that will happen, but sometimes concerns can manifest into worries….I think we come out and play a complete game and win by 8-12 points

UM is better than mediocre this season. I live in Big 10 country and have watched them numerous times this season. Shit, I payed more attention to them this season than my Spartans. Duke better be careful when they play them next round.

Last year when Kentucky played Mountaineers made all 3 point baskets in the first half. We actually got off to a great start but when the Neers started hitting threes we tried to match it instead of going to our bread and butter of going inside. I think after winning so many close games last season John Wall and Co. thought they were going to pull out a win but it wasn’t meant to be. I hope if we do get off to a great start that we do not look back its when you let a team hang around they will burn you in the end. Everyone has to play well if we want to make the round of 16. If we lose expect Louisville fans to flock to our game message boards.

#14 Who cares what the Louisville fans think? Louisville is not relevant in any discussion about UK Basketball.
Louisville is nothing but a collection wannabe punks, wife cheaters, wife beaters, dope dealers, fraudulent ticket dealers and table polishers. Can someine explain to me how Karen Sypher had such great seats behind the UofL
    bench for the Morehead game?

Hey all..have been doing some writing work all afternoon and wasted some time reading UT fan blogs about Pearl…here are some highlights:

    “Pearl should be shot”
“Both Pearl and Hamilton should be shot”
“Hamilton should rot in hell while Pearl is shot”

    Stay classy Volunteers….

when evaluating how the specific conferences are doing in the tourn i think once needs to consider if the teams lost to a lower. i’d like to see a breakdown of conference records based on them losing to a lower seed. there is no shame is losing to a favorite!

So this is the matchup we have been dreading. If we lose, well we’ve seen some progress but just not enough, season over, blah blah blah. But if our guys will come to win, divin 50/50 balls, sacrifice everything, and Coach Cal will really coach these boys up, it could propel us to an unbelievable run. One good thing about the Princeton game, we beat a tough squad and gained some momentum. So in a NCAA tournament CUSTOM DESIGNED for a Puke repeat, why not steal the spot light and show all the doubters where the standard of college basketball still remains. As tremendous as Coach Rupp was, Kentucky basketball continues to thrive, no matter who the coach or the players may be. We’ve had some real trials and the critics along with the NCAA continue to try and drag us to the ground. But UK basketball will prevail once again and all those who scoff and downplay the glory of our program will once again have to eat their words. It’s just a matter of time. And long after all these modern team’s “crazies” are pushin up daisies, Kentucky basketball will still have the best fans and the best tradition. GO BIG BLUE!!!!!

Seriously how often does Brandon go for just 2 points and we still win? Jitters maybe? Who knows, all I can say this team found a way to win and his only 2 points were at the right time. This team was meant to face the best of the best….and WIN. The Big (L)eats loses again and we go on. Cats by 7, and it won’t even be that close. Go Cats!
