Justin Rigg named to John Mackey Award Watch List

Congratulations are in order for Justin Rigg, who was just named to the watch list for the 2020 John Mackey Award, given annually to the best tight end in college football.

The senior from Springboro, Ohio is one of nine SEC players on the list along with Kyle Pitts (Florida), Arik Gilbert (LSU), Tre McKitty (Georgia), Carl Tucker (Alabama), Kenny Yeboah (Ole Miss), Daniel Parker (Missouri), Jaylen Wydermyer (Texas A&M), and Nick Muse (South Carolina). Last season, Rigg totaled 11 catches for 128 yards and as a blocker, helped pave the way for Kentucky’s ground game, which led the SEC and ranked fourth nationally with 278.8 rushing yards per game. He got his first collegiate touchdown on a fumble recovery in the end zone vs. Toledo.

Hopefully the John Mackey Award Selection Committee also takes card tricks into consideration:

Congratulations and great accomplishment. I just hope they use him as he should be and get some passes out to him rather than just utilize him for run blocking. The staff had possibly the best tight end in the nation in C.J Conrad and should have used him a lot more than they did.
