Randle pitches BBN to Wiggins, (Andrew) Harrison hates Louisville

BGt_Uu_CUAA-gzH.jpg_large

The future of UK basketball is enjoying their time at the McDonald’s All-American festivities in Chicago this week. After practicing this morning, the players answered questions from the media, most of which centered around Andrew Wiggins’ upcoming decision and what next year’s Kentucky team will look like.

When asked what he told Andrew Wiggins to try to convince him to come to Kentucky, Julius Randle simply said: “I pass him the ball. That’s what he can get next year.”

When told that Willie Cauley-Stein would be returning for his sophomore season, reports are that Julius Randle and Andrew Harrison grinned, with the latter saying “That makes me happy.” Harrison further endeared himself to the BBN by saying he hopes Michigan wins the Final Four “because I hate Louisville.”

H/t to Erin Jentz and Ben Roberts for the quotes.

No one has really pointed this out yet, but Goodwin’s departure pretty much busts it wide open for Wiggins to come to UK without any drama. Now, both Harrisons will start at the 1 and 2, Wiggins at the 3, Randle 4, and WCS at the 5. Wiltjer and Young will play huge minutes backing up the guards and our 4 and 5 will be crazy deep with Lee and Johnson coming off the bench.

Marcus Lee is going to be exciting to watch…….the way he blocks shots and rebounds, and not to mention it will just be auto-lob for oops to him and Wiggins (if he comes) just like it was to Anthony Davis and Terrence Jones in 2012. Crazy to think he is just the 5th player I am most excited about seeing out of these recruits too (Wiggins included). LOL

Quick takes on blog commemts: J.R. you can wear any shirt you like, just thanks for wearing UK blue next season. ML nothing wrong with shark fins, never met up with a shark i didn’t like, don’t think sharks have migrated to lake cumberland yet, but asian carp fin may enrage some people. If Archie leaves, I wish him well, hope he stays tho, think that would pay off in the long run for Archie and UK. Archie you’ve got heart and a lotta motor, hope you find the right trainer to refine your shooting and passing.

Getting wcs back is huge, but don’t everybody jump the gun and say he’s a sure starter yet. I mean Dakari is a 7 ft 5star all American center for a reason people. Gonna be awesome having them both!

#9. While I agree somewhat, maybe your post was worded funny. Wiltjer will not be backing up the guards off the bench. In fact, if he doesn’t improve his foot speed, it will be difficult for him to get good minutes. I think Lee and WCS will fit well with Randle. Will be interesting to see how Cal uses Dakari and Wiltjer and what sort of tempo they’ll deploy. May be match-up plays only, we’ll see.
Also Goodwin is not a true 3 and had to play the 3 role because they had poor personnel and no depth. His decision really doesn’t impact Wiggins much except the fact that that is one less player to get minutes. Even if Goodwin returned, and Wiggins didn’t declare, there was a good shot Goodwin would be on the bench because of James Young.

ML keep the fin if you like it – we don’t have the brow anymore, the flat top’s going to the league. Hair fans need something new. Style will make a good bighead. ’14=9, new math.

Another these young men seem to have alot offensive talent , but no one ever shows or talks about them playing defense because guess what they are going too have go up against stronge experienced players net season. And if you can’t play defense , which leads to fouls.

#37) From what I’ve seen and heard, they are good defenders.

Does everyone see WCS as a lock to start? I like him, but there were games where he couldn’t rebound, or just vanished. Watching Lee, it seems like he’s a good defender that enjoys attacking the glass. Dakari seems like a situational or match-up player. Maybe he’s an ok free throw shooter that will close out games IDK. At times the offense ran through WCS, but wasn’t too effective. Next season it won’t which is good. Hopefully he makes an effort to be a defensive stopper and rebounding machine. If he doesn’t, at least it’s good to know that the position has depth.

#42 – I like WCS but I agree. I do not see him as alike against the likes of Marcus Lee and/or Dakari Johnson. WCS is going to have to earn it. And, I am still a little worried about senior-leadership. I am hoping Wilt steps up and Polson brings it. It’s hard for a young man to assert leadership over a group like this and as talented as this. Will they be open to and listen to Jared and Kyle?

Is uk allowed to run a streaming video cam of the position workouts/drills? I need something to get me through the workday (between now and mid-November)

(Not to mention the amount of travel expenditures it will save nba scouts and personnel over the next 15 months. I think most nba teams would have a scout watching those streams on the daily!)

#4. Why is wanting Poythress gone wishful thinking? and why would Cal want to push him out the door? Poythress is a good kid, student and although he lacked consistency at times, is still a heck of a talent who I think just needs some more time to develop. If some of these freshman don’t perform like Davis, MKG, Cousins, Wall, etc… we act like we’re ready for them to move on and out the door. Why not get behind some of them who chose to stay for a few years to develop and enjoy the college experience? I hope Poythress does what’s best for him and if thats staying 2 or 3 years Cat Fans should be ecstatic.
