Julius Randle trying his best with Andrew Wiggins

Julius Randle, who finished with 19 points and co-MVP honors in last night’s Jordan Brand Classic, said he is doing his best to get #1 rated Andrew Wiggins on board with the Kentucky recruiting class. “I’m trying my best, but it’s on him,” Randle admitted in the post-game media interviews. “I wish him nothing but the best.”

Of course it was an all star game to where no D is being played, although the twins were doing fairly good jobs on their guys. Randle played like the beast he is, I was really impressed with him.
Whether Wiggins come or not, I feel we’ll be just fine.

    3. Walker also can be a bit of a head case. He wouldn’t have fit into the concept of team most likely.

Wiggins couldn’t find a better guy in college basketball to have his back then Julius Randle. To anyone dumb enough to go after AW on the court, ie cheap fouls, thug play, Julius will make you wish you hadn’t – and yes, he will make you pay big time!

Love Wiggins and really hope we get him but I’m amazed at the kids we already have coming in. Each of them is awesome and WCS the icing on the cake. Randle is crazy-good!

Powerful player, wish we could have got him to come to UK.. That said,
Love Randle and I don’t think Wiggins is coming… Randle sure didn’t sound very optimistic

Etrain saw a different game than me. I thought young looked good.. Have no idea why someone thinks Dakari will shoot good from te outside. Agree that randle is a beast. But the main thing I heard is wiggins wants to win a championship.. Not gonna happen at fsu. Kid should be a cat! Before you start, punctuation and sentence structure is not my friend when trying to type on a little @ss phone keyboard. Just trying to get my point out.

Dakari will be just fine. Idk why people say he is slow. For his size he runs the floor very well. He’s not a point guard he is a tradional center with great hands who can grab offensive boards. He will have plenty of conditioning this summer. Stop complaining!!!!!!

There is more to Walker than you posters think. The kid was begging for a scholly from UK, claiming it was his dream school if my memory serves me correctly. Cal still didn’t offer. In Cal I trust, there is obviously a hidden reason that a guy who can play like that doesn’t get an offer.

Maybe some people should actually know what Cal wants out of each player before they go pass their judgements on them. Dakari Is a traditional C and while he Isnt as fast as WCS we dont need him to be. He Is a low post anchor that you cant move out of the paint. If we are going against a similar big then they get to battle Dakari, If we face a mobile C whos probly a big 4, then they get to run around with the fastest 7 footer In college basketball In WCS. Young has a nice shot and Lee, while he Is a little skinny and needs to toughen up just a little bit Is not going to be used to throw his weight around. Hes a quick big who can run the floor and jumps out of the gym. He needs to toughen up so he can finish after contact and not get complacent when people try to push on him. But Its not like we are going to use him the same way we use Dakari. I wouldnt take the Randle comment too deep. So many scenarios. Im sure Wiggins doesnt want anyone leaking anything about him or hed be more open. Im sure Randle IS also tired of hearing the same Wiggins question. I mean the kid just went out and got co MVP honors at the JBC and hes got some talking head asking him about Wiggins.

14 is right. Chris Walker would’ve almost certainly been at Kentucky if Calipari had offered him. Cal knows something we don’t.

    11:52 am April 14, 2013 Permalink

Walker most likely comes with a controlling parent, or a crazy uncle, or an agent that will surface at some point.Trust Cal,, ” you don’t know what he knows”. If you did you would make $6 mill a year coaching.

I’d take Randle over Walker and Wiggins any day!!!! Wiggins is FSU bound. The kids kinda weird anyway.. You know good and well he’s known which school he’ll be going to. He’s known that for months, so why hold out??? I can’t speak for anyone else, but I want a kid who wants to be here!!!! Not someone who is on the fence about it!!! I’ve washed my hands with Wiggins, I suggest you do the same to save yourself from getting your feelings hurt….. He’s not coming here.

#9 the center going to KS did make a nice block on Randle. But later in the game Randle drove the ball into the kid’s chest and drew the foul. No worries there. Randle showed his smarts in addition to being physically dominating. I don’t see how u can say Dakari is slow. He was playing with and against athletes he will not face nearly as much next season. The kid is already more polished offensively than either Noel or Willie.

It’s obvious Wiggins has a world of talent but I am not sure he has the demeanor to be a star at Kentucky (see Alex Poythress). He seems to shy away from the spotlight and people who know him personally say he doesn’t want to go somewhere that has a white hot spotlight shining on him. I want players like the Harrison’s and Julius Randle who believe winning at the highest level is a goal and not a burden. Alex and Ryan Harrow are perfect examples of how players who don’t have a competitive will to win can poison the locker room and drag down team chemistry on the court. Let the other guys recruit and sign players who are products of “everyone wins a medal” sports leagues. Kentucky Basketball is for players who would run through a brick wall for a rebound and wear floor burns like a badge of courage. Wiggins will be a star next year and a bright future in the NBA, but he’ll never win at the highest level. Not in college or in the NBA. Just sayin’.

@23 is not very bright. Wiggins was never going to commit before April, he had a plan and is sticking to it. There are other factors besides schools going on in this. Nike wanted him to commit at the JBC, but that was never going to happen. And if you sit there and say Nike has no say then you know nothing. Where do you think Wiggins will get the most exposure for Nike, at UNC or UK? No question UK. Nike would prefer if he came to us, but unlike Addidas and Shabazz they aren’t going to blackmail him to make him go there. With that said Randle’s comments mean nothing other than him saying he did all he could to recruit him to UK, but in the end it is his decision and he doesn’t want to have no bad blood with him. Also to the guy saying you would take Randle over Wiggins, back in the Summer they played and Wiggins put 28 points, 13 rebs on Randle. Randle scored 15 points and had 13 rebounds on Wiggins. Wiggins will be a Cat and I will not waver until my guy tells me he is.

@25 you are stupid. Wiggins wants to win just as much as the Twins and Randle. He doesn’t mind the spot light that was all a ploy just like the Harrison Twins and Randle not liking each other. The kid will be a winner. He may not be a leader, but he won’t have to be at UK because we will have Randle and Andrew Harrison. You can not compare Poythress and Harrow to Wiggins. Poythress was the player that almost “hijacked” the program because Cal had to play him because he didn’t have anybody else to play, that will change this season and it will force Poythress to play and work hard if he wants to see the floor. Harrow is a totally different story than anything that has happened. Harrow had so much going on off the court, not many people could have played as well as he did. The kids dad was in ailing health and he never knew if he would live through to the next day. How would like to try and play while that was going on the entire season?

I just came up with the McDonalds All American hamburger challenge. As you probably know, McDonalds All Americans are also known as Hamburger Kids. We have six McDonalds All Americans coming in the freshman class this fall. (Seven if we get Wiggens.) No school has ever got more than four in a year before. To celebrare our record recruiting, after Wiggens makes his decision, I’m going to McDonalds and eat a hamburger for each McDonalds All American we sign. That’s at least 6, and maybe 7 Mcdonalds hamburgers. Oh, the sacrifices we Cat fans make! Anyone else cate to take the challenge with me?

im thinking more like archie hijacked the program……poythress was fine…..he didnt do great thjngs but he never did stupid stuff either as the season progressed. he just was not ready to be the star. most freshman are not. he averaged 13 ppg and 7rpg at over 50% from floor and over 40% from 3……not bad from a feshman cut him some slack….jeez

@30 that’s not a challenge at all. After a football game my senior year the team went to McDonald’s and myself and 2 of my teammates, we each ate 2 double quarter pounders, 4 double cheeseburgers, 4 5 piece chicken nuggets, a big mac, and 2 large fries (the food was free so we ate a ton) lol

If Wiggins wants both a championship and the spotlight – Randle probably turned him off to UK last night by getting the co-MVP. This just proves that if he comes to UK someone else can grab the spotlight. Kansas and FSU he can score 30 points a game but he will not get a championship. Hate to say it he could take UNC to the next level without worrying about too much competition from his own teammates. That being said Wiggins seems to just drive to the basket most the time the same as Randle but Randle seems much more the BOSS at it. No worries here.
