Julius Randle blogs about his injury

2013 big man Julius Randle recently suffered a fracture in his right foot, ending his season. Randle, one of Kentucky’s remaining targets for the 2013 class, is still considering the Cats, along with Texas, Kansas, North Carolina State, Florida and Oklahoma. Many analysts have said that Randle favors homestate Texas, but his recruitment has been notoriously hard to read. In fact, the only certainties in Randle’s recruitment come from Randle himself, who writes a blog for USA Today’s high school website.

In his latest entry, Randle writes about his injury, which he sustained during a game over Thanksgiving break. The injury ended his season, but Randle vows to be back on the court as soon as possible. Naturally, all of the coaches recruiting him reached out once they heard about his fractured foot, including Coach Cal. Writes Randle:

I had a really good talk with Coach (John) Calipari since my injury too. He’s funny. He told me that worst-case scenario, if I never play again, I could still come to Kentucky on scholarship and after I graduate I’d be his assistant. The crazy thing is that I know he’s serious about that. It just showed me how much he really cared about me and my future. That meant a lot to me.

Knowing Cal as we do, he was totally being serious, Julius. Not everyone was so nice. Randle said that a UNC fan wrote him on Twitter after his injury, “cursing me out and telling me this happened because I cut them from my list.” Randle laughed it off, but stay classy, Tarheels.

Randle will visit NC State on January 26th, Texas on February 9th and Kansas on February 16th.

I don’t think we should be telling anyone to be classy on twitter after what some of our fans did

Don’t care about this kid now, he dogged the Harrison’s and made himself seem untouchable and that we can wait on him but now he’s hurt and doing a total 180 because he’s gonna drop down the recruit rankings.

Nice job #8-I’m sure your not caring about him will make it hard for him to go on living.

If anybody can get Randle ready to play for the 2013 class it is Cal. You idiots out there that are now putting him down will eat your words when he is in a UK uniform and performing on the court like he is known to. It is people like you that put everybody down that hurts recruting. If you think you can recruit better than Cal and his staff get out there on the road and do it and if not keep your mouth shut. Those who think that will lower his redcruiting rank hasnt got a clue about knowing how to recruit. Sounds like to me you might be a IU fan

I hope he gets better soon. He’ll still be a good player even with being off the court for a bit, just might have to step up his conditioning a little. He’d still be a good catch for Cal.

I just don’t see him in Calipari’s mess, The whole ESPN show really showed how Cal talks behind the players backs! he just stabbed Ryan Harrow in the back, while flying on that air plane talking trash about him and he’s had two years to make this 5 star player better(That’s right,he practiced with UK last year) Cal fell into a championship last year! The waterboy could win it with that group! This year’s team shows Cal’s real coaching ability.
