joeyherrick

If you listened to today’s show, you may have heard Wide Receivers Coach Tommy Mainord drop a little news nugget during his interview. According to Mainord and the new roster, JUCO WR Joey Herrick has joined the team. Herrick attended Kilgore College last season, where he played with fellow JUCO-turned-UK player Steven Borden. He’s 6’1″, 200 lbs. and can run the 40 in 4.42 seconds. Last season, he had 30 receptions for 292 yards and two touchdowns for Kilgore. In high school, he had 1,200 receiving yards with 18 touchdowns, and averaged 27 yards per catch.

Here are some highlights from his high school career at Dripping Springs High School in Austin, Texas.

Welcome to the fam, Joey. We need you.

Dripping Springs is in Dripping Springs, not Austin. Just FYI not that anyone cares

Not really a fan of his JUCO stats but still believe Stoops knows what he’s doing. Speed kills and this guy has it, they can work on the fundamentals with him.

I like the quarterback. He’s got a rocket and puts it on the money.

He only had 30 receptions last year, but his average was nearly 10 yards. I think he’ll be more of a rotation guy, but still very much needed.

His HS stats were impressive and apparently he played behind two soph WRs that approximately 100 catches between them. So 30 catches is not to bad either.

If I return a punt or kickoff for 6 against WKU, will I be “more of a rotation” guy?

Awesome. We need help at the WR position and it appears we have it with this kid. Derek Abney 2.0?

Not tremendous speed, but nice size. 6-1 and 200 translates to a possession receiver in the SEC. Seems to have a knack for route-running and good hands, too. If he can take a hit and complete the reception, he’ll get on the field this year, given our numbers.
