Josh Harrellson is still King of the World

josh-harrellson-louisville

It’s still the happiest time of the year at KSR as Jorts Appreciation Week continues this morning with the announcement that Josh Harrellson was named the SEC’s Player of the Week for his domination of the Chicken Shack Friday.  Harrellson’s 23 points and 14 rebounds earned him top honors for the first time in his career, while Brandon Knight’s 25 points garnered him SEC Freshmen of the Week.  It was the second week in a row that UK swept the awards.

The award is another cherry on top of the Josh Harrellson transformation sundae, which Coach Cal spoke about a bit on the SEC coaches teleconference today.  Cal said that Josh is a great example of of what he hopes to get out of all of his players – an “I can’t believe that young man is playing that way” reaction from those watching him play.  Coach Cal spoke at great length about how his job is to get guys playing at a level that they never though possible and that is what we’re seeing from Jorts now.  He said that it is his job to coach each player individually and that, for Josh, means 6 am conditioning sessions (which Cal hates) to help him improve himself individually, so that he can be a valuable piece of the team.  Cal added that as these successes come, Josh’s confidence grows and that he’s now doing the things he didn’t think he could and he’s on a mission to continue to get better.  So far, mission accomplished.

Go Cats! Jorts has hung in there through it all, just like all of us fans. Now we are all on top and loving every minute of it. Keep it up Jorts. I have a feeling that Darius’ coming out party is right around the corner. When all three Clyde guys are playing at Cal’s level, watch out world, the cats are here!!!!! go big blue

Go Jorts. I wonder if we could try Hood as a 6’7″ jumper instead of Vargas when Jorts has to sit?

    7) i’d be much more interested seeing darius play down low more like he did in canada. 4 guards plus TJ. TJ should bang more down low but he’s never adjusted to that growth spurt and still want’s to hang around the perimeter.

I hope everyone remembers the boneheads that were trying to run this guy out of town to open up a scholarship, posting on his facebook, etc. Just think where we would be right now without Harrellson!

    # 7 i like that idea… Vargas looks lost at all times and three steps behind on both side of the ball. At least hood could come in and get a board.

For recruiting purposes, it’s a no-brainer to play up Jorts’ development. “Look what I can do” examples can be powerful, considering all the recruits that last year said “I like what Cal did with John Wall.”

Not questioning Cal’s motivations in wanting to develop young men, I’m just saying that he also has motivation to make public these developmental skills he possesses for recruiting purposes, and he knows it. He may be talking at the BBN, but he’s really to recruits he’s targeting.

I think it’s awesome what he has done, personally, so don’t flame me.

How about the clip on the Massey kid; the one I watched ended with Kevin Massey, with his strained voice, telling Cal “You’re a good Christian man.” You see that side of it, hear all the cheating stuff, and it sinks in that the guy may never get a truly fair shake in the public eye. Since he’s innocent, I don’t think he cares.

When’s anyone going to fuss about the takedown by Jennings of Liggins at the end of the game? That’s BS.
