Jonathan Reed and Marcus Caffey dismissed from the team

More football news…but it’s not good. A UK spokesman has confirmed that freshmen DBs Jonathan Reed and Marcus Caffey have been dismissed from the football team for violation of team rules.

The spokesman also said that Mark Stoops is back in Lexington and is gathering facts regarding the arrest of lineman TJ Jones.

helps to explain why so many DBs are getting offers. i figure this is the first phase of attrition and we’ll shed the guys who weren’t going to class, then we’ll get a second phase after spring ball when several guys realize they aren’t going to get PT.

Here’s hoping the malcontents and not so serious athletes are sent packing. No need to put up with guys who are not serious about their opportunities to play and get an education.

hate to hear it, but coach Stoops has got to set a tone of discipline. iirc, i’ve heard Caffey was very good and very promising.

Definitely explains the amount of DB offers… still, we should have as talented a secondary as we’ve had in some time. Lowery is a solid young safety and if Faulkner recovers from his injury as expected that’s two good safeties to go with what I thought was a very good DB class last year and an even better DB class this year. McClain and Hytchye will batlle for time next year and the Juco DB were after hard is #3 juco DB .

Stoops is serious in upgrading what’s been a bad secondary and a huge weakness for UK for a long time. DE and Secondary has killed our D for years

I’m more concerned a D. Linemen and Linebackers. Really we need everything but if we cant stop the run people won’t even both passing.

Exactly, trim the fat. Joker ran a circus, his players had no respect for him and partied harder than any team on campus. Ridiculous, this isnt a club team and players have to be accountable. You think Alabama’s players dicked around, smoked bud, went to bars all the time, etc? Hell no. Time to trim the fat

    8) our linebackers have always been mostly solid but your right about the DLine. Of course Stoops has and is still addressing the D-line but if u don’t think the secondary Has been a major issue for years then u haven’t been watching lol.

Da’zarius Smith is a Major upgrade. Moving to a 4-3 will also help but in general the whole defense needs a complete overhaul. Luckily we have a defensive guru now and some young talent so I’m confident we’ll see at least some big improvement out the gate.

We will also have a much more dangerous offense and having Smith back will result in at least 3 more wins. Smith was on pace for over 3000 yards and over 30 TDs before he was injured.

I knew this program wasn’t serious when I saw Taylor Wyndham and some other starters out at Two Keys right after Louisville just slaughtered us this past season AT Louisville. Guess he couldn’t wait to get off the bus and head there after the game. This was like 2 hours after the game. No exaggeration. It happened ALL year. No, I’m not some square that thinks you shouldn’t party and live by all the rules, but c’mon man.

Welcome Coach Stoops! The end of recruiting kids solely just because they were classified as 3 or 4 star players by Rivals. The end of UK coaches not giving a dang if the kid is good in the real world or even attends high school classes. UK may only win 2 games again this year, but the Commonwealth will be proud of our representation. It won’t be surprising is there is significant dead weight and slackers that don’t make it to the first game this coming season. Absolutely, this team will be coached like we have a head coach.

Too bad Caffey couldnt turn his act around.

Oh well, with young DB’s stepping up last year in Cody Quinn and JD Harmon shouldnt be the biggest loss, especially with Mcclain and Hytche (sp?) coming in with some talent to challenge for a spot. We should also be getting Glenn Faulkner back injury, so hopefully he lives up to expectations as a four star recruit coming in.

Linebackers will be good, but very little depth, which is a concern. Running the 4-3 defense, a solid core of Williamson, Dupree, and Miles Simpson won’t be too awful, just what is behind them is not too great.

DL will be a concern. Both Mister Cobble and Tristan Johnson will return as seniors, which is nice. But hopefully the JUCO DE will be able to step in and fill Ukwu’s starting spot. No idea who will start on the opposite end.

But all in all, our defense SHOULD be vastly improved. We will only be losing Windham, Ukwu, Benton, and Neloms (you can also count Cartier Rice if you wish), but other than that, everyone is returning.

But biggest worry on the team right now by far is OLine. We are losing Matt Smith and Warford on what was an average at best OLINE last year. Hopefully they can coach up some guys in spring, otherwise, it could be our downfall this upcoming year.

For the last 30 years of watching football, my bar of whether the team was getting better or worse was how many walk-on players are starting. If a walk-on starts either the coaches couldn’t judge talent or were not very successful in recruiting SEC players. Kentucky has had a number of walk-ons start in the past, which is great for the kid but tells you a lot about the players that are on the bench.
Stoops is saying by his recruiting of JC’s just how DOWN the talent level is on this team.

Both would have been good players down the road. I don’t think Stoops realizes how little he has to work with if he is cutting these guys. Man is he in for a rude awakening when he finds out our DBs have the same 40 times as the DEs he’s used to at FSU.

FSUs defense was horrible when Stoops arrived and in 3 years was ranked in the top 5 in the nation! Give him some time and some slack. Ill take his opinion over some welfare dependant on a computer bitching about “what we need”. “What we need” is an overhaul, and Im glad stoops is the one under the hood. No one in the world knows how bad Joker dragged the program down than Mark Stoops

Great decision by Stoops. These thus do not deserve to play at Kentucky. Yes, people deserve a “second chance” but not when you do something as dumb as these idiots. Way to ruin the reputation of Kentucky football punks.

Ruin UK’s reputation? Joker managed to do that in three years. If these guys are screwups, Stoops made a great decision. If you look at our roster, you’ll see a huge need for linemen on both sides as well as at the DE spot. We have a ton of DBs and Receivers, but one has to question the quality. Joker and his staff managed to run this team into the ground and Stoops has a major rebuilding job ahead of him.
