Tomorrow begins one of the busiest weeks that I can remember having in a long time. With five Barnstorming events over the next five days, we are going to be pulling a Willie Nelson and going “On the Road Again.” Our first stop tomorrow is Franklin, Kentucky, where the guys are doing an autograph session on Tuesday night. Franklin is of course the home of Joker Phillips, Kentucky’s head coach in waiting and an individual who has performed at an amazingly high level since returning to his alma mater. However you may think that this is all that you get from Franklin….but you would be wrong. Franklin also produced golfer Kenny Perry, who still lives in the town that bleeds blue. In addition, Annie Potts….who I am sure you remember from the “Ghostbusters” movies….calls Franklin her hometown. And if that werent enough, the great couple Johnny and June Carter Cash were married in Franklin….thus making it the home of country music’s greatest marriage. I know it sounds sappy, but the great thing about this tour is going to towns like Franklin…..I love Kentucky small towns and I am excited to make a pit stop down in that part of the state. Scottsville is Wednesday with an actual game.
And oh yeah, Spencer Pratt is still the worst….tonight was one of his finest performances….
To the news…
(1): Biggest news of the day? Well it probably is the report out of Hartford that Ater Majok committed to UCONN. Not a huge surprise since nearly everyone had him going that way, but a bit of a disappointment nonetheless due to his amazing talent. I never spoke to anyone that thought he was anything but a lock to UCONN, but I know some around Kentucky heard good things. In the end though, he is a Husky and the Cats are still looking…..
(2): But maybe not looking for long. Tomorrow could be D-Day for Josh Harrellson. I am still hearing that he will be letting the coaches know tomorrow what his final destination will be. As for when it becomes public, who knows. There is some talk that there may be a public announcement on Wednesday….but it could very well leak before then. Most news seems positive for UK and my only source on this one has consistently said that UK is in the lead. I still hear that he has a family member pushing for St Louis….so it could go either way. But the big man search may be (at least partly) done soon.
(3): Still no clear consensus on the status of Paul McCoy. I think the kid is a special talent. Evan Daniels of Scout.com was on my radio show today and said he thought that McCoy could contribute right away for UK and really liked his game. I concur. McCoy’s coach has told me has an offer. Others seem to have heard other things….I would think it would be in UK’s best interest to have offered him. With Majok and Flemings gone, he is the most likely immediate impact player for next year in my opinion.
(4): Good football news for former Cats today. Eric Scott and Rafeal Little signed Free Agent deals with the Tennessee Titans. This is a good spot for both young men and gives them both a chance to make a squad. I like Raffy especially here as there are multiple openings at RB for the Titans going into camp. Wesley Woodyard is headed to Denver to become a Bronco. I was told that Woodyard had more than ten teams inquire about him and he was Mel Kiper’s “Best Player” not picked in the draft. Wesley will make noise in the NFL.
Should be a fun couple of days around here….and if you get down at all, just picture the Jared Carter Barnstorming Tour this summer in Africa. It will certainly make you smile…..
