Joker Phillips is the 90th best coach in America

Someone with a lot of free time over at The Sporting News recently ranked the 124 head coaches in college football. Kentucky’s own Joker Phillips came in at No. 90, ahead of Derek Dooley of Tennessee at No. 99.

The good news is there is plenty of room to improve.
Go Cats.

By the time this season is over Joker will be ranked #125
Mike Leach is #17…just sayin’
So, can we hire Orlando to coach the football team… Or, have we completely given up on winning any football games in the near future?
That rating is too high…
IU sucks! Go Cats!
Salary in the top 30 range. Operation laughing all the way to the bank
Sounds about right.
I’m surprised he’s ranked that high.
This is going to be totally irrelevant once Joker gets fired at the end of the year. What’s the over under that Joker doesn’t make it thru the entire season? Commonwealth is going to look really big when it’s empty.
Joker is banking off of this…we cannot hire a top 25 coach??
How bad do the losers have to feel to be ranked below Joker? #91 and beyond must REALLY suck.
No excuse for an SEC school to have the #90 ranked coach in college football. We technically probably haven’t had this low ranked a head coach since the team was wearing leather helmets.
#1 is spot on. An SEC football coach ranked beyond 30 is ridiculous, especially when they land at the 90 spot. Was this post meant as a joke because it sure made me laugh. Joker would be a great middle school coach, not collegiate material…even when he played at UK. lol
But I guess that’s ok with The kentucky AD though…..
He I’ve got the 99th best coach in America …out of 124… COME GET SOME
2.- Mike Leach is #17, and #2 in the PAC 12. HIRE MIKE NEXT YEAR !!
Touchdown #6; nailed it!!!!
I wonder how many above #90 got fired last year?
I saw a bumper sticker in Louisville this week:
‘Blue to the Bone’ – Kentucky Football
Is that the slogan for 2012?
I guess ‘Bad to the Bone’ is already taken??
He is really just rank!
WE WANT CHARLIE!
90 out of 124 seems about right. When I saw how poorly he utilized Randall Cobb as OC I knew we were doomed with him named head coach in waiting.
Charlie Strong @ #51
It’s easy to bash Joker…I’ll give him this season, but if he stinks up the joint….ADIOS!!!
17 keep Charlie. We don’t want him either.
Why did they give him such a great rating?
Why would I come to Kentucky? I am in a BCS conference that is much weaker than the SEC and thus have a better chance to win big here – and then move on to somewhere a lot better than UK after my image is reformed by winning.
… and here is the writeup for Vandy’s coach:
“That’s right, it’s not a typo. It’s Vandy, and it’s six wins; heck, it’s a losing record. But what Franklin has accomplished in such a short time–on the field and in recruiting–is groundbreaking. Good guy Bobby Johnson took Vanderbilt to a bowl game, too. But Johnson never recruited like Franklin–never beat Tennessee and Florida and Alabama for players. This pick this high is based as much on potential as it is performance. And the fact that Vandy, for the first time ever, is serious about spending significant money (recruiting budget, facilities) to get better.”
That speaks volumes to me. The fact that a school like Vandy, who does not even have an AD, is willing to make the commitment to football while a school like UK continues to trot out the same old lame excuses is embarrassing.
At least he is ranked higher then UT, Memphis, and IU. We must really be a basketball college. Brooks would have been ranked around 50, I really miss him at UK and I didn’t want him to come to begin with because he was too old.
TSN is a baseball publication and they ought to stick to that. There aren’t 89 coaches in the country better than Joker; although, I will agree, there may be 89 with easier jobs.
I really hope Joker proves eveyone wrong, but his time is getting short. Would love some excitiment back at Commonwealth
Hmmm….interesting. I’d put him around #119.
If you listen to postgame Tubby and postgame Joker it’s exactly the same demeanor, almost as if they’re distancing themselves emotionally from the train wreck.
