John Wall also gets a Team USA mini-camp invitation

BBVA Rising Stars Challenge

Yesterday, we found out that Anthony Davis got an invite to the Team USA minicamp in Las Vegas, and it looks like at least one fellow former Cat will be there too. According to Yahoo Sports, John Wall has accepted an invitation to the camp, along with six other point guards (Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving, Ty Lawson, Kemba Walker, Mike Conley and George Hill). Steph Curry may receive an invitation as well.

Coach K and the rest of the Team USA staff will likely make selections for the 2014 World Championships in Madrid at the minicamp, and eventually, the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The camp takes place from July 22-25.

Where are the point guard superstars? Why did Damian Lillard and Kemba Walker get invited. They are good but young and raw… Did none of the rest want to be apart of this? And how is Knight not as good if not better than Lillard and Walker?

I love John Wall and there is a lot of good talent at the point guard position in the NBA so I hope he can show what he can do.

#6) I’m as big of a UK fan as the next guy, but Knight is not as good as Lillard or Walker at this point in his career. Hope that changes. I agree with #5, Steph Curry is one of the best PGs in the NBA. I’d say some of the PG superstars like Rondo, Westbrook, and Rose are out for obvious reasons. Not sure on Chris Paul or D. Williams but I’d take Curry over Williams.

This means little…since Rose, Westbrook, and Curry are all hurt but will likely make the team if they want to play; Also have Paul and D Will out there. Wall is playing for a back-up spot that will probably go to Irving.

@#6 ICYMI – Lillard won ROY and is a stud.

Then again, maybe Paul doesn’t need to attend this mini-camp as it’s assumed a spot will be there for him if he wants it.

Man they are really missing out on the best young Center in the league. Give Boogie an invite and let him prove himself.

Boogie will be invited and will be really hard not to place on the team. I think playing with the other star’s will boost his game and attitude. Hell, he is better then D. Howard.

@ 10 – yeah i think that’s the case…guys like Rose, Paul, Rondo, and Westbrook already have a spot if they want it. This is to decide who fills in if needed. Like Davis had to do last year when Griffin went down.

@12 – Boogie is far from being on this team…love him but he needs to work out some attitude issues first. Besides, they go with a smaller squad, so not many spots to fill for a traditional PF/C.

The World Championship in Spain isn’t the Olympics. The last tournament like this was Kevin Durant’s coming out party with a bunch of second tier NBA stars. This tournament will likely be the same, using the up and comers of the NBA. Then some of the guys who make this team will make the 2016 Olympic team with the usual Lebrons, Durant’s, and Chris Paul’s.

first, did they ever go to the 23 and under thing or no? and second, JWall played a year and a half injured…he lit it up when he came back at the end of this year…look for him to break out and be Blue Jesus this year

If this is the pool, then Wall will be starting. I am assuming C. Paul will be staring and it is these guys vs D. Williams for the back up spot. All other canidates are hurt.

To everyone that says Lillard is stud. Lets wait for the league to adjust. I will give no one props for their rookie year. Seen too many flame out. Yes he was good when comparing to the other rookies. No I would not point him out as even top 15 PGs in the league right now.

Team USA needs to get Boogie for the sole purpose of beating the hell out of some whiny frenchmen.
