John Calipari: George Clooney of recruiting?

Practically brothers.

It’s not everyday that you read an article that compares John Calipari to George Clooney. However,’s Gary Parrish makes it happen in a column about Kentucky’s 2012 recruiting class. Parrish and’s recruiting analyst Jeff Borzello team up to soothe the Big Blue Nation’s anxiety about UK’s current lack of commitments with this simple comparison: don’t worry Kentucky fans…you’ve got the George Clooney of recruiting; like Clooney, Cal will land the hottest prospects with ease because he’s just that awesome.

There are few sure things in sports anymore.

One is that Tony Romo will crumble under pressure.

Another is that Tiger Woods won’t take the golf tournament he enters.

Another is that John Calipari will get great prospects and win a lot with them.

“Kentucky fans shouldn’t be concerned,” recruiting analyst Jeff Borzello said. “If most of the top prospects were already gone, then maybe it would be a problem. As it stands, though, about 20 of the top 30 players in the country are still available — and Kentucky is in good shape with several of them. When it comes down to it, Kentucky is still going to end up with one of the top recruiting classes in the country.

Tell me more, Jeff Borzello! A list of Kentucky’s top prospects and where we stand with them would be fantastic!

Best chances to land:
Archie Goodwin [No. 6 in the Class of 2012 rankings]
Alex Poythress [No. 14]
Devonta Pollard [No. 18]
Willie Cauley [No. 47]

Also on campus for Big Blue Madness:
Shabazz Muhammad [No. 1]
DaJuan Coleman [No. 10]
T.J. Warren [No. 32]

In the mix for:
Mitch McGary [No. 3]
Perry Ellis [No. 27]

Really, don’t worry, Parrish says: “If Kentucky ends up with three or four of the aforementioned players, it’s another top-rated recruiting class for Calipari. John Calipari, now back in the United States after coaching the Dominican Republic to a third-place finish at FIBA Americas, will eventually secure commitments from enough top-rated prospects to eliminate all questions about whether UK’s recent recruiting success can continue. ”

So, death, taxes, and Cal landing big recruits? Basically, says our old pal Evan Daniels:

“Bottom line, they are going to get some of those guys [Borzello mentioned]. There is no way Calipari strikes out on all of those dudes, and when the dust settles he’ll be sitting with another top-five class and probably something better than that.”

Sounds good to me.

I remember years ago when George Clooney’s dad Nick was hosting a late night segment on either the Home Shopping Network or QVC when women were modeling panties and bras. Never seen anything like it since on a shopping network. Gary Parrish is just trying to get in our good graces after his piece dredging up the Anthony Davis getting paid nonsense again.

I’m hearing strong chance of McGary and Muhammad to Duke. The UCLA talk on Shabazz is a smokescreen.

Coleman is huge for this class. We’ll like have to replace the entire frontcourt minus Wiltjer. This class is full of high-end Centers/PF and we need to grab two of them (Coleman and McGary or Coleman and Cauley)
