Joey Brackets puts the Cats in St. Louis

The latest edition of Bracketology is out, and Joe Lunardi did a little relocating of your beloved Wildcats this week. Last time around he had them as the top seed in the Atlanta region, which would be music to the ears of UK fans who wouldn’t hesitate to turn it into Catlanta for a weekend. This week, though, he penciled them in for the St. Louis region (after playing the first two games in Louisville, of course). The home of Nelly is geographically about the same distance from Lexington but isn’t the home away from home that Atlanta is for the Big Blue Nation. There was some discussion of how it might all work out this morning on the radio show, so go listen if you haven’t already. I will have to say that Atlanta is a lot more appealing not only because UK fans will paint it blue, but also because in this projection the Cats’ #2 seed is Kansas and playing in St. Louis would mean that plenty of Jayhawk fans, or Missouri fans if they end up on the 2-line, would be able to make the trip. They’d still be outnumbered at least 2-1 by Kentucky fans, I’m sure, but Atlanta would be better in terms of the Big Blue completely taking over. I may be overthinking this, but despite the distance to St. Louis being the same, Atlanta is where I want the Cats to be.

Syracuse, Ohio State and Duke are the other #1 seeds, and here are the rest of the teams you might be interested in:

2 – North Carolina
2 – Kansas
4 – Vanderbilt
4 – Florida
5 – Indiana
6 – Murray State
7 – Alabama
8 – Mississippi State
8 – Louisville

The full bracket is hiding behind this link.

Since the whole three goggles thing was started by the Portland Trailblazers, why is it that big of a deal? Do people like Matt think our players started this?

Why Atlanta, so Dave Shelton and his cohorts can stuff their pockets with the profits they make from the Alumni club’s pep rallys?

Playing KU in St. Louis is almost as bad as playing Wisconsin and Marquette in Minnesota in ’03. I like the rest of the bracket though.

    3) My thoughts exactly. I wouldn’t want to play Kansas anywhere but I don’t think they make it that far either. I would take this bracket right now if they’d let us lock it in!!

Duke doesn’t deserve a 1 seed, the will get the heck kicked out of them by Carolina!

Wow, this bracket is practically handing the Cats a ticket to the Final Four. This would be awesome. Kansas is overrated, whether we played them in St. Louis or not. Creighton as the 3-seed? Harvard/Cal as the 8/9 game? Am I the only one who thinks this?

If it plays out this way, there’s a good chance UK could tend to some unfinished business from last year, namely beating UConn. Just hope we dont come up against Butler (early).

I don’t care much for having to play Kansas in St. Louis. I would take the rest of the bracket in a heartbeat.

You know if UK was a 1-seed and Memphis was a 8/9 seed that the NCAA would be sure to pair them up. Also, if Murray State runs the table (which is indeed possible), no way do they get lower than a 4-seed IMO.

#8, you are not the only one thinking that. With this bracket, we would be guaranteed to at least get to the Final Four again. Of course, we all know our actual region will be WAY more stacked than Creighton, Harvard, and Texas-Arlington.

    14) Yes if the NCAA had it their way they’d be sure to put the Cats in a rediculously loaded bracket.

St. Louis is actually closer to the state than Atlanta and fans in western Kentucky would pack St. Louis.

If we did have to play Harvard in the 2nd round, would we have to listen to everyone say we’re on upset alert like with Cornell two years ago? Only to see the Cats run over them like a freight train, just like Cornell.

So, getting some guys together to go crash Gameday at Vandy on Feb. 11th (it’s not that far). If Gameday doesn’t want to show up at the greatest venue in college basketball for 2 years, then BBN should take our passion and pride on the road. Would definitely make a statement to turn Vandy’s Gameday BLUE!!!

    19. No we’d hear the same crap as the past two years about Ivy League schools doing things right and how amazing it is that they have made it this far

#19, the nightmare scenario would be that the game unfolds like last year’s meeting with Princeton did. We were darn lucky to escape that one.

I’m stationed near St Louis, so this would be a dream come true. I deploy to Afghanistan just after the FF, so this would be a great send-off.

Big info missing from this post: Where does Murray State end up?!

Is this supposed to be “if the season ended today”? Because if that’s true how on earth is Vandy a 4-seed? I think they’ll be in by the end of February, but so far they have a lot of horrible losses and… one quality win over Marquette? Shouldn’t they be a bubble team?
