Sad…they should have turned it into a UK basketball museum or found another use for it.

The saddest thing about it for me is that I’m old enough to remember when it was built.

I know the guy who took this photo. I had just said “Hey you should tweet that at KSR and see if they would put it up.” as I was loading the website, and lo and behold we see it up here already. He was pretty excited.

1 – right, since the last basketball museum did so well.

This is a great thing as it represents progress for the campus in building new facilities for general students (what a concept!!). It’s just another step in transforming campus housing which will help UK overall.

They are going to build new dorms there I think, not sure though. It is sad to see it go.
Buckets, was that serious or were you just trying to be funny? If you were serious, Clear Channel was hacked by Islamic terrorists in a hut in Gaza and Clear Channel is currently unable to upload podcasts.

20 – The lodge and the parking lot adjacent are having new dorms put up. Part of the overall campus plan to add lodging.

Why don’t they use this name as a replacement for the Cole Lodge? I still don’t know who Cole even was…

25 – Right on. Good! The ball players have the new superior coal lodge, they tearing this down to build new dorms. The new UK President Eli C. is doing a great job trying to catch UK up on dorm facilities. I have 2 at UK now, and trust me, things haven’t changed a bit in 30 years. Every campus I have been on, …UofL, Murray, you name it,.. all have better than UK. Eli C. is doing good here.

#23 “building new facilities for general students (what a concept!!).”

Get over yourself. If your bitter about the Basketball team and its players getting more attention that Joe Student over the last Forever and a day, than you are in for a lifetime of disappointments. There is a reason guys who are 6’8″ with crazy athletic abilities get nice housing in college and big contracts to play pro ball…its because their ability is one in a million. I’m guessing you are one in ten. If Joe Student is bummed with his housing options, than he/she should have considered looking at one of the other 2,600 4-year institutions in the Country.

#39- I understand Haggin and Donovan are both going to be flattened for new housing. Already building something in the field where we used to play football by Haggin.

I lived in the Lodge for 2 years — very sad day indeed. Boy, if THOSE walls could talk!

So down goes Joe B. Hall Wildcat Lodge honoring a man worthy of honoring, for a lodge whose name is the biggest joke ever played on my alma mater and the ultimate in industrial product placement. The coal industry destroys the mountains, water, communities — anything Joe Craft and a handful of coal barons lay their greedy, grasping mitts on.

  48. JF

46 – and what do those communities get in return for tearing down their land and water supplies? A few modest public buildings to prove they are ‘re-investing in the community’, which are pennies on the dollar of what the industry is making. But that’s enough to pull the wool over the eyes of a lot of people here in SE KY.
