Not that it really matters at this point as UK has already approved the Wilcat Coal Lodge, but I think its good to point out what Joe B. Hall said about the issue on his radio show this morning.
When asked about a new building being built without his name, Coach Hall said:
“No, no, its not mine. I have no problems with how they name it. The coal producers are the ones that are contributing the money. And they want to publicize their business by having coal in the name. That is a controversial name, no doubt. But, the coal people have been awfully good on coming forward and contributing to all kinds of things, not just athletics. Coal people are very generous and supportive people to all types of benevolent acts.”
So frankly, if Joe B. Hall is good with it, I think we all should accept it. Besides, IT’S JUST A BUILDING. College recruits don’t care about the name on the side of a building, they care how nice it is IN THE BUILDING. And for 7 million dollars, I would think the building would be fairly nice. They paid the money, thats what they get for paying the money. Coach Hall also said later in the interview that the current Wildcat Lodge will still be used, so its not like his name will still not be on a building on campus.
