Jim Calhoun loses another player

Soon after we learned that Alex Oriakhi would be taking his talents to Mizzou, Coach Jim Calhoun loses another member of his front court. According to CBSSports.com Sophomore forward Roscoe Smith has decided to leave the Huskies as well. Smith, who was a key player in the 2011 National Champion run, will open up his recruitment once again. The 6-foot-8 Smith came to UConn as a wing player but was quickly converted to the post by Calhoun. He averaged 4.4 points in 18.7 minutes this past season, which was down from 6.3 points and 25.4 minutes his freshman year. Smith, like Oriakhi, was a top 50 prospect coming out of high school and will be a highly touted “college free agent.” Losing Oriakhi, Smith, and Andre Drummond to the NBA draft, means that the Huskies only have one more post player under scholarship for the 2012-2013. I don’t know what has been going on in Storrs, but players are heading for the door at an alarming rate and it could be a long time before we see UConn back to national prominence.

Anyone know if there will be a video stream for the Blue/White game or is it radio only?

#1 I hope not cause there are a bunch of idiot UofL fans in red at the game. This is ridiculous! I don’t want recruits seeing that.

“I don’t know what has been going on in Storrs, but players are heading for the door at an alarming rate”…. ummmmm they have a post-season ban next year, Rashawn. What player wants to stay around and play for, essentially, nothing?

Time for Calhoun to retire, and for UConn to clean house and start over.

#7 I doubt it, I will look into it but why would he want a Junior who only got 4 points a game?

I’d like to see us go after him. We need some more big bodies. If Bennett is half as good as advertised, getting Smith shouldn’t scare him off.

Cal should go after Roscoe because (A) his name is Roscoe and (B) his late game management is impeccable http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yabpY-YT46k

He sounds like he should play for the Cards.

He may not want to leave them this bad off, but with his health, the NCAA sanctions and players getting out of there as fast as they can, we should be hearing of the real sleazy Cal’s retirement any day now.

They need to go find a coach willing to come in and play with a bunch of walkons for a few years and then recruit them back to prominence. A Pitino, if you will.

#13- Calhoun wants to get out of there as fast as he can. He will use his health as an excuse BC he isn’t man enough to clean up the mess he created.

UConn is what happens when you have a person and not a program. They let Calhoun gain too much power and he wont leave and no one has the balls to stop him from running the program down. They lucked up and got hot last year, but the APR and recruiting probs along with Calhouns health and age is destroying what they built.

Rayshawn, your post are some of the worst that i have ever read on this site!! Post number 3, i did not see any UL fans, but there was some red there due to fans wearing the color of their high school team.Matt Jones, you need to change the name of this site to Kentucky Basketball Report. It’s good that you don’t charge anything to come to your site, because i wouldn’t give one red cent to come here and read some of these anti UK football posts!! Oh and Stuart, you suk just like Rayscum!!!!!!

Do a little research and you’ll find that no one in Storrs gets along with Calhoun; the AD left rather than deal with him, the press hates him, the women’s coach hates him…only the fans like him because he won. UConn should have been banned last year and this year from the tournament – the player payoffs much more blatant than anything that caused the UK ‘shame’. The sports media buys him as Coach on “Cheers”. They should try being journalists.
