I saw an elderly couple, maybe in their late 70’s in the parking lot after the game. The woman had what was left of her UK sweatshirt hanging around her neck. She had a really bad gash on her forehead, and one of the lenses was missing from her bent eyeglasses. I looked down and saw the husband looking for something next to the curb. I asked him what he was looking for and he told me one of his two teeth were knocked out when 3 IU students curb stomped him. The poor guy had a wedgie, and they had pulled his fruit of the looms over his head and around his neck. I cautioned the couple that Assembly Hall was the last place they needed to be after dark. Just then there was a loud explosion not far from us. As luck would have it, it was their pickup truck. A group of IU fans had pipe bombed their truck. As we were headed for our car we saw an older guy carrying a large box. He was really struggling. I went over and offerred my help. You will never guess who it was. Ted Valentine. Just as he was handing over this large , bulky box, he dropped it to the ground. The box had split open and stacks of hundred dollar bills were strewn everywhere. He told us thanks for the help, but he could manage. What a night

I’ve been to a handful of away games for football and while every group has their bad apples, the majority of fan interactions have been positive. People need to realize that 18-22 year old kids who are consuming alcohol is a volatile combination. However there is no excuse to get beer dumped on your head, middle fingers in your face, etc. Booing and getting yelled at is good natured, it’s expected. Somebody dumps a beer on my head it’s on.

Full disclosure, when I was a student I ran up to a kid (maybe 13) and booed as loud as I could in his face. I’m not proud of it, but it happened. As I got older, I have calmed down and realized that other fans are just like I am and want to have a good time. I try to treat everyone with respect now, even if it includes some good natured ribbing.

After reading the fan post last night, and hearing of the texts and posts last week, I feel that we should drop IU from our schedule. Unless they want the game moved to a neutral site (Indy not neutral) then I see no need for the game. Their fans are classless, even the good ones, and they have demonstrated that they can be hostile. There is no need for anyone, on either side, getting hurt over a game.

Thank god W. Virginia did not receive a bid to join our conference where we would be obligated to play hooligans once a year on their court.

I think there is something to the fact that IU has sucked for so long that it has made the IU fan base become unhinged. They wanted to beat us so badly and needed this so badly that the emotion of the day completely boiled over. I think this just stands as a testament to how much IU has fallen and how desperate their fan base has become. Act like you’ve been there before, IU.

The stories of people being treated badly that have come out are bad, but I witnessed the most horrific thing ever. An IU fan walked up to a group of UK fans (who were male) and said “what are you girls doing”. I was SHOCKED and HORRIFIED.

I know if UK would have beat IU, I know, I would and I believe most UK fans, would have gave each other a few high fives, been pleased, and would have continued into the night. I would had been happy that UK won but I would have forgot about that we had beat another under matched team that does not really mean a thing to UK’s season. That shows that if Uk would have won, that it is not an upset. Storming the floor and running around like you have won the National Championship shows that it was def. an upset. This is very similar to very under match UK football program in the SEC beating #1 LSU, because I and the rest of the country know that was an upset, just like Saturday!!

    **Almost a fight**
When we used to rotate the IU/UK games between Indy and Louisville, a few buddies of mine and myself went every other year to the game in Louisville. We scalped tickets that were the front row of the upper level seats at Freedom Hall. Great seats. The year that mike Davis infamously went to the press conference and stated, “I can’t coach this team, I’m not good enough.” (Or something like to that affect.) Anyway, there was a point in the game where we went on a 10+ point run. The run lasted through a timeout and a TV timeout. So, we’re talking at least ten minutes of actual time. Well, the 4-5 people behind us were all IU fans and they were none too hapy that we stood up the entire time. These men were at least in their 30s and all 4 of us were college kids.
So, they start demanding that we sit down because we are blocking their view. Well, we didn’t think they were serious, so naturally we continued to stand through the TO’s and through the run. So, the next thing I hear is one of them say if you don’t sit your F’ing a**es down, I’m going to kick your a**!! We all look at each other and laugh. At 5’11 170, I was the smallest of my group, but small by no means. The other guys were 6-1 to 6-4..we were killing their view. I had heard enough so, I turn to them and say, “don’t get mad at us that your team SUCKS and we’re on a run, we’ll sit down when you stop us!!!”

They went from we’re going to kick your a– to going to ask security to have us sit down. I happened to turn around when they were talking to security and seen the security guard laugh at the guy. We did not sit down the rest of the game. We heard them say they were going to “get us on the way out,” but they left with 4 minutes left in the game.

We looked for them on the way out, but they were no where to be found. To be honest we wanted to find them. And since that day IU will always be the team I hate the most. Even more than UL!!!

No problem with the content of Dakich’s rant – He was quite accurate in his analysis. He did come out swinging, which is also fine by me. It wasn’t organized and he answered the wrong question, but I thought it was insightful at times.

But to condescendingly insult and poke fun at UK fans (and .com guys) as a whole…unprofessional. Charming, indeed.
