Jeff LaBar Wants Afternoon Notes

Something called Cinderella played a show in Louisville last night and lead guitarist Jeff LaBar made the right call by choosing to root for the state school over the city school.  Proving that he’s Nobody’s Fool earns him some recognition on Kentucky Sports Radio and leaves you with easy pickings.  1.

A few notes…

 – As you keep that spreadsheet updated and handy to track Kentucky’s basketball targets and their expected commitment date, make sure you mark down that Anthony Bennett will choose his school in the spring.  Bennett’s AAU coach told Adam Zagoria that he will weigh his options and hold off until the fall, but Kentucky remains one of the schools he’s considering, along with WVU, Pitt, UConn, Florida, Marquette, Ohio State and Washington.  I know what you’re thinking and, yes, it would be awesome if he picked Washington and then flipped his commitment.

 – Kentucky football commitment Patrick Towles is in California at the Elite 11 quarterback camp and got off to a good start.  Towles recorded the fastest shuttle time among the 24 quarterbacks in attendance.  Towles previously attended one of the same events in Columbus, Ohio and had a strong showing, earning his trip to Malibu.  The roster will be cut to 11 players by the middle of this week.  Here is what ESPN’s Tom Luginbill had to say about Towles’ first day:

Raw is the best way to describe Towles. His playmaking ability and penchant for keeping plays alive cannot be quantified in this setting, however, this environment gives him a picture of how much he will need to refine and smooth out his mechanics if he wants to be a potent passer, not just a thrower playing street ball. He has the frame, feet and athleticism to flourish in a spread setting.

 – If you’re not up on all of the Twitter stuff, Doron Lamb has asked to be called “D Lamb” this season.  Fair enough.  UK graduate assistant Brandon Weems replied that he’ll be calling him “Oron Lamb” until he starts playing defense.  Boom!  Roasted!

 – It seems like Baylor often pops up as a place with chaos within the coaching staff and that again appears to be the case as assistant Mark Morefield was dismissed for threatening IU commit Hanner Parea with deportation.  Parea is rated by Rivals as the #15 overall player in 2013 and the coach of the South American native is said to have received this text from Morefield:  “I guarantee u if he does [commit to another school] he will be in Colombia for the spring and summer and next year. Don’t forget it.”  We can only hope Morefield now ends up coaching in Colombia.

Feces about to hit the fan in Baton rouge. 3 pm announcement regarding findings from NCAA. It is never “Everything is just fine”

Also, rumor mill in Athens that John Jenkins, UGA JUCO transfer DT was offered $$$ by Auburn and he and his uncle have gone to NCAA with info.

That’s because Morefield is right! Perea needs to go back to Columbia. Perea is a cheater. He has asked repeatedly for gifts from the Indiana Elite and the NCAA has done nothing about it. The downfall of Tom Billy Clyde Crean is coming.
