The all-time leading scorer at West Jessamine high school now has his jersey hanging on the wall. Before WJ’s game against Mercer County Friday night, fans of the  point-guard flooded the gymnasium to see Polson honored for his record-breaking career. Scoring a total of 1,884 points, Jarrod lead West Jessamine to back-to-back 12th region championships in 2009 and 2010.

During the ceremony Jarrod was praised for not only being a star on the basketball court, but also a star in the community. For that, Jarrod was awarded a key to the City of Nicholasville. Jarrod was also presented with a frame which contained both his West Jessamine jersey and his UK jersey. Towards the end of the ceremony, Jarrod took the mic, making sure to thanks his family, teammates, coaches, school faculty, everyone in the Nicholasville community, and the BBN.

UK takes on Georgia tomorrow at 1:30, but that didn’t stop the entire team, including Cal, from coming out and supporting their Senior back-up point guard (Pics below).

It’s extraordinary how people go to such great effort to just try to find negative things in everything. This is a snapshot where everyone in the crowd is getting settled in to their seats, nothing has started yet. Everyone else in the stands is doing the same. One little snapshot from that moment – and you brand it as negative for the entire ceremony that they didn’t enjoy seeing their good friend and teammate honored? What in the world?

      Good grief!

You can’t tell me Polson didn’t have a nice pair of pants to wear to his own jersey retirement ceremony. Mama Polson knows what’s up.

The bottom line is that his teammates and coaches were there when they could have been anywhere else, doing an infinite number of different things. Classy move 100% of the way. Congrats Jared and GO CATS

Say what you want about Cal but I think he understands the importance of having some KY boys on the roster to blend with the elite talent he brings in each year. I think it is important for the out of state recruits to understand how special of a privilege it is to put that uniform on. Even more effective when they hear it from someone who played HS ball just like them and are the same age where they can relate. It is important that every KY boys’ dream of playing for UK is kept alive by the fact that there are actually KY kids on the roster.

Who is your all KY boy UK team?

    Cliff Hagan
    Ralph Beard
    Rex Chapman
    Dirk Minnifield
    Jack Givens

    Patrick Sparks
    Darius Miller
    Anthony Epps
    Melvin Turpin
    Derek Anderson

I have to speak up for Laurel County – G.J. Smith (RIP GJ), Paul Andrews Jr. No one refers to him as Jr. but his Dad was Paul Andrews who starred at Hazel Green HS and Union College.
Little known fact is that Rex’s mom was a cheerleader at London HS.

My son and I have gone to Coach Cal’s father/son camp the last couple of years and have spent a good amount of time around Polson. He is such a great guy. Very proud of this award for him and how nice he is with everyone.

Add Dickie Beal and Troy McKinley to the Kentucky Boy team. Congratulations to Jarrod. He has come from the guy Kentucky fans would yell: SHooooooooooooooot… to a solid contributor on a ranked Kentucky Team that has as shot at making a dent in the tournament this year. Pretty impressive for a kid with not as much raw talent as most he has shared the jersey with over the years. He deserves all the praise he is getting.
