Jarnell Stokes will stay another year at Tennessee

(Insert joke about not being able to stretch well enough to enter the NBA draft)

Tennessee just announced that big man Jarnell Stokes will be returning to Tennessee next season instead of entering the NBA draft. Stokes was scheduled to make the decision official at 11 a.m. The news makes Tennessee, a team who came on very strong at the end of the season, a likely top-25 pre-season team to start next season. Stokes will be a junior next year for the Volunteers.

Somewhere Jimmy Dykes is taking a cold shower.

Not much of a need for a 6’6′ post man in the nba.

Heard he still wants to work on his calf stretch.

His coach is selfish and looking out for his own interests. That is why he talked him into coming back. Stokes’ stock will never be higher.

@1 Chuck Hayes 6’6′ 250 has had a long career in the nba being a role player. They can always find a role for a solid 6’6′ post player that plays tough. Not saying hes anything talent and toughness like Chuck Hayes, but you cant count 6’6′ players out.

He will be back for his senior season as well cause he said he was staying until UT won in Rupp! Guess he will graduate as a failure!

He would have been a Cat last season but he enrolled at UT spring semester 2012. Cal was caught off guard by his decision. We’ll never know if he would have made 2013 better for us but I suspect that big body in the paint would have helped. NBA material-not sure about that but playing for UK would have been better for the kid. I would wish him well if I didn’t hate UT so much.

In other news, Jon Hood announced he is coming back for his senior year instead of declaring for the draft.

I don’t remember him being on any Mock Daft board. It would have been a “stretch” to think he would have been drafted anyway.

6″6? He is listed as 6″8, unless that is wrong. I remember Chuck Hayes being listed as 6″8 at UK before determing he was actually 6″6.25 without his shoes. IMO he looked just as tall as Terrence Jones.

Good. I want to sing his name sarcastically to the tune of Diff’rent Strokes’ theme song when we stomp them by 40 twice next year. “But they got Jarnell Stokes, it takes Jarnell Stokes, it takes Jarnell Stokes to make the NIT.”

#5. Hayes was always a hard worker who knows his role. this kid is made out to be a star. He is truly 6’6′ and he won’t be a star in the pros, much less a star in college.
