I bet Cal’s recruiting pitch is come on down to be a part of the greatest recruiting class in history with the potential to be a part of one of the greatest teams of all time, or go to any other school and be another blip in the history of all of college basketball.

He has been the biggest lock for us in this class and would be a huge surprise if the UK graphic didn’t come up on the screen.

We all know he has/had been a lean towards UK… but is the assumption he is still headed our way premature? I don’t know how he feels about playing on a team with the twins… IIRC, he is a SG, so he’d now be competing with the top SG in the class for playing time. I hope to see him at BBM friday as the newest commit, but there’s a little worry-wort voice in the back of my head making me second guess the likelihood of that outcome.

    Number 17 …

Calipari has been pitching to James Young about playing with the Harrisons. Same with Randle. Young has been a UK lock for a while now.

Announcing right before BBM and already rumors of him coming to it on Friday. I never felt better about a recruit coming to UK than I do right now.

  21. mike

@17 if he is truly worried about competing with another sg, then he is not uk worthy. When you come to uk, you come in with the mentality that you are the best. You expect to play, not because you are selfish, but because you are confident and competitive.

He’s a lefty and can drain it from behind the arch. Young and A. Harrison along with possibly Wiltjer shooting 3’s will be nastyyyy.

  23. Han
    11:17 am October 10, 2012 Permalink

That has to be good for us, right? Rumors that the twins announced earlier to beat Young to the punch and no indication he doesn’t want to play for them, right?

Looking good, guys. Come on down, James!

    20) Willis, A & A Harrison, Young, Randle (hopefully), Lee (hopefully), Wiggins (hopefully and assuming he reclassifies). Greatest class of all time. Return a couple guys from this team and we would have more talent on paper than most teams in history.

    11:17 am October 10, 2012 Permalink

14- He’s said he prefers to play forward. His Nike EYBL team was small, and he did a lot of damage inside. He was one of the leading rebounders over the entire 20 game EYBL schedule, and at the Peach Jam.

He’ll be a guard in the NBA, but he’s more than capable of playing the 3 in college. My only concern with Young is shot selection. He’s had the greenest of green lights on every team he’s ever played on. With as much talent as he’ll have around him at UK, he’ll need to reign that in a little.

I feel better then with the twins, I was a nervous wreck last Thursday, hopefully, this one will be easier on my nerves. Cal has proven that same position guys can play together at UK and next year will not be different with the Twins and Young. There is the future 1-3 and if Wiggins decides to come, we can have a team of 2-6’5″, 2-6’7″, and 1 6’9″ (Randle) A team that can run, jump, defend, and run some more. We will run teams out of the gym, with the Dribble Drive Offense.

  27. BigBlue15
    11:25 am October 10, 2012 Permalink

Young will play at SF if he comes to UK. He is 6’6″ and would honestly be a perfect wing next to the Harrisons. He has a sweet shooting stroke, excels at attacking the rim and can run the floor with anyone.

My only concern is if Wiggins reclassifies. If he commits to UK then he will certainly be the starting SF for the team. There’s also no way that Young starts over Aaron Harrison, so this would push Young to the bench as our 6th man. As a Top-10 recruit, he deserves to be a starter so that could be a situation if Wiggins does join this class.

But if that doesn’t happen, then James is good to go and will excel in Lexington. Come on down Mr. Young!

It doesn’t matter if Young starts or not. It didn’t matter to MKG or Miller whether they started or not. What makes Cal’s recruits so valuable (aside from their talent) is their unselfishness and their propensity for teamwork. Cal is finally able to pick and choose among top ten talent. I believe Roy or K would have taken Walker in a heartbeat if he had wanted them.

    1 Andrew
    2 Aaron
    3 Young
    4 Randle
    5 Wiltjer

So does that put Harrow, Archie, Alex on the bench if they don’t go pro? Assuming Nerlens heads on to the NBA. Think about Julius and Alex playing the PPat role.

    36. Harrow, Archie, and Alex will go pro. All of them will go. Harrow, Archie, Alex, WCS, and Noel. Wiltjer may stay, though.

    40. No. I would bet money on that one. He’s already projected as a Lottery pick by some. He’ll be gone just like the rest of em. Not to burst your bubble or anything, but WCS may be one of our best players next year. He is the most underrated player we’ve seen in quite some time.

If Wiggins comes in 2013 and Young is pushed to the 6th man role there is no downside. Every 6th man we have had for the last three years is playing in the NBA.

We can’t just assume a majority of our players will be gone, even if it does happen every year lol. Everyone thought Jones was gone after his impressive showing at the beginning of his freshman year and everyone thought Knight would stay after his poor showing in the beginning of his freshman year. Look what happened. It just all depends on if they live up to their expectations. We just have to wait and see what they do during season.

41.) Ill take your bet that WCS is a one and done. He has shown no signs of being as good as you say he is. Just hype from Cal. When he did play this summer his stats were terrible. Basketball wash even his natural sport a few years ago. Glad to have him but he is here to grow and get better. Not all can be one and done.
