University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

James Young to unofficially visit Kentucky, officially.

After some confusion as to whether or not James Young would actually be able to make it to UK for an unofficial visit this weekend,Zagsblog confirms that he will, in fact, be on campus.

Young tweeted yesterday that he planned on visiting, but there were concerns that, because the visit would be unofficial, he might have difficulty making it.  Unlike official visits, where the school is allowed to provide for travel and accommodations, unofficial visits are funded entirely by the student and his family, which can obviously be a hassle.  However, Young’s godfather Sean Mahone says that “Yes, we are taking an unofficial visit.”  Mahone added:

We haven’t taken any visits whatsoever.  Over the past week and a half we’ve had an opportunity to go through the home visit process.  The other schools were here, which gave us an opportunity to get to know those programs and coaching staffs much better. Now it’s time to take the next step and get on campus and see firsthand what the schools have to offer and this is that first step.  And because of the proxmiity of Kentucky, this is a great opportunity for us to take advantage and go visit Kentucky.

It’s a good sign to see that Young, a Michigan native, is choosing Kentucky as his first college campus visit.  However, we shouldn’t expect anything dramatic to happen over the weekend (unless somebody sneaks in a keg to the tailgate area at Commonwealth).  Mahone says that he “would not expect [a commitment] to happen” during the visit.  Mahone is also the source that claimed Young would have no problem playing with other elite players, should several decide to all attend UK:

You play with Wiggins, you play with the Harrison twins, you play with Julius Randle, I would envision an up-and-down game and an opportunity for people who pose a threat from the outside to be able to given that opportunity.

I kinda like this Sean Mahone guy.

Young has only gotten better and better as the recruiting season has gone on, and there’s no indication that he won’t end his senior year a top ten, possibly top five prospect nationally.  Many suspect that he will be the second domino to fall in Kentucky’s 2013 recruiting class.  After cutting his list to Kentucky and Syracuse, things continue to look promising with the 6’5″ guard/forward.  Should he enjoy himself on his visit (and who wouldn’t?), it’s possible that he could commit before the Harrisons announce later in October.

He hasn’t officially cut his list to two. It seems like Meyer was told it would come down to Kentucky and Syracuse, and he took that as Young had cut his list to two.

I don’t think there’s any way that class comes together. But if it did, it would be BEYOND absurd…

A top recruit considering Syracuse is taking an unofficial visit to Kentucky? Sounds like I have an article to write!

Sure, he’s going to love that no-alcohol tailgate, half empty angry stadium and 40 point loss at home.

I trust Calipari to find a way to be smart enough to not let him go anywhere near the stadium though.

He will be at Keeneland instead of the football game and once he lays down on that temper pedic bed, he will wake up and commit lol

    2) Harrison twins, Young, Wiggins (assuming reclassifies), Randle, Lee, and Willis
Would kind of be the most ridiculous class in history

Why come out of pocket and pay for an unofficial visit, when you can come officially and be part of the madness in just 2 weeks? Paid, certified and delivered?

    7) He still could take an official visit here, but sometimes kids like to use their officials to go somewhere fancy that they don’t plan to attend, or maybe the school couldn’t host him officially when he wanted to come.

Back in the day Gatti played with The Bourbons. They played at the old Bishop Davis school off Dixie. We went to most of the games to see how many balls were hit out of the park. His arms were as big as Arnold’s.

Honestly, I dont see why he or his family would pay out of their own pocket to visit Kentucky and then commit to another school. It only makes sense that he is Kentucky’s to lose.

So he’s going to see UK get slaughtered by South Carolina? That should leave a favorable impression. And no tailgaiting, DJ’s, or drinking?! What an atmosphere!

Does anybody know for sure that his godfather has been his godfather for since he was a child. I am not implying anything. Just know that Pete Thameltoe will be all over it if there is any chance.
