University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

James Young Should Be a Consensus Top Ten Player

We’re gonna need him to keep this hair if we expect to keep the t-shirt sales up.

Got a little time for a tiny recruiting tidbit?  Of course you do!  For this we look past Anthony Bennett and Amile Jefferson for just a minute, to the class of 2013.  With so much attention in that class going to Jabari Parker and the Harrison twins (Andrew and Aaron), sometimes other targets can be overlooked, when they really shouldn’t be.

Lefty guard James Young is just such a player.  You may remember us mentioning him in mid-late April as a player in the 10-20 range, but Jeff Borzello of CBSSports.com says that Young is too good to be left out of the top ten, and will rise to as high as number seven when the new rankings are released before the summer period.  He’s the type of versatile, athletic scorer that will cause fits for opponents, with the equal ability to knock down treys as well as drive and get to the rim.  His athleticism is “off the charts,” and his size for the position is ridiculous, at 6’6″ and 210 lbs.  He’s everything you can like in a shooting guard.

Even better?  He likes us, too.

[On Kentucky:]

I love their offensive system.  [John] Calipari is a good coach. I like the way they play offense and defense; they get up and down the floor. It’s a good educational school too.

[On Cal’s Visit to His Game:]

It means a lot, it’s a blessing. Not every kid gets that.  I watched them growing up. They like to win and that’s something I like to do. I just always liked Kentucky.

Wow.  He thinks we’re a good educational school.  Nobody tell him.

Of course, it’s not necessarily in the bag, as there’s always the matter of overcoming the “hometown” school.  Since Young is from Troy, MI, Tom Izzo is obviously going to be a factor.

A lot of my friends, family, they want me to stay home and attend Michigan State.  But I just don’t know.

I haven’t seen a young player speak that highly of UK in a long time, and Young could end up being a part of an increasingly talented 2013 class.  I’m excited to hear what his recruitment looks like in the future.  But with the anticipated bump in ranking that he’s earned, if he signs alongside Parker and the Harrisons, 2013 could end up resulting in UK getting just an embarrassment of riches.

Just another year for Coach Cal…

I think many KSR writers are best when they “borrow liberally” from other sites.

Also, an FYI … most recruiting gurus don’t think Parker is coming to UK. Also, Young has gotten a lot of press lately and isn’t much of a secret to the basketball world.

Whether joking or not, I don’t think UK should be put down as an educational institution. Plus, if you follow recruiting and don’t know who James Young is, you must live under a rock.

Nichols. I appreciate the info. Apparently it’s a big deal for people as to where it comes from first. Like it effin matters (roll eyes).

Funny, Nolecat…FSU I am assuming…and you are dumping on UK’s academics! UK is a pretty good state school…about like most…not a TOP academic institution but you can get a great education there if you apply yourself.

Yeah I’ve heard Parker is a favorite for Washington (as of now) and I have no idea why.

Can’t say I appreciate the putting down of UK as an educational institution either. I agree with 5.

He’s already a consensus top 10 player on espn and rivals. He’ll be top 10 in Scout’s updating rankings. Cal needs to offer Young and Walker before it’s too late.

I thought bringing info from other sites was part of the appeal of KSR. Keeps u from having to search all over. Besides, it’s free.

I agree with the others and don’t understand the need to denigrate the quality of education at UK. It may seem small and harmless to the author and others, but it’s totally unnecessary and demeans the faculty and staff that are trying to make it better. Just my two cents.

I’m sorry, but if some of you really think UK is a good undergraduate institution you are incredibly clueless. UK is a research based university and, as an institution, they put way more emphasis on that than doling out quality education.
